In this feature, Melisa Trad Malmod (Melisa Trad Malmod) explores the story of Siria Yaser (Siria Yaser), the daughter of Palestinian poet Hanna Yaser, known across Latin America as Juan Yaser. Siria grew up in Argentina with her father’s books and teachings, recalling the constant sorrow in his eyes of leaving his home village, Taybeh, now occupied by Israeli settlers, without a goodbye and enduring family losses from afar.

Today, Siria carries forward her father’s legacy and holds the heavy reality that the grief and weight of exile will continue through her, and extend through her daughter. Through her writing, research, and advocacy, she preserves the Palestinian history that displacement constantly threatens to erase.

Her story highlights the role women in the diaspora often take on as custodians of heritage and history across borders, proving that memory itself is a form of resistance.

Community Voices | Kinda Ghannoum is a Syrian-Polish graphic designer based in Brussels. After studying architecture at Damascus University, she moved into visual arts and graphic design, developing a practice deeply rooted in Arabic typography, architecture, and calligraphy. In this selection, she takes us behind her creative process and into her world of visual storytelling.

In her project “Lines of Grief,” Kinda visually interprets a line from Palestinian poet Samih Al-Qasim’s poem Min Ajl (“For the Sake of”). The exhibition was presented at the A.M. Qattan Foundation in Palestine as part of the Elegiac Whispers project.

Translated line from the poem:
For the sake of a morning! We toil through days and nights,
Bear the sorrows of generations, And scatter wounds across the night!
