In June 2013, Rave history happened when Live Nation bought a 50% stake in Insomniac. Even though people often call it a merger, it was officially a "creative partnership." This is important because it meant Insomniac's founder, Pasquale Rotella, kept full control over the creative side of the festivals.

By 2013, EDM was exploding in the United States. Festivals were getting massive, and running them required huge amounts of money, security, and global resources. Insomniac needed a partner to keep growing. Instead of selling the company completely, they teamed up with Live Nation. Live Nation had the money and the venues, but they needed Insomniac’s connection to the fans and their unmatched stage production.

The Live Nation merger happened during a wild time in music history. Another massive company called SFX Entertainment was buying up dance music promoters left and right, trying to own the whole scene. Insomniac had to make a choice. They chose Live Nation over SFX because Live Nation allowed them to stay in charge of the music and the fans. Backed by Live Nation's deep pockets, Insomniac was able to expand EDC beyond US borders and cement their place as the leaders of the global festival scene.

There was something special about the 2008-'10 era of Insomniac's Electric Daisy Carnival, when it was held inside the Los Angeles Coliseum and Expo Park.

When 80,000 ravers took over a historic Olympic stadium, the culture was never the same. If you experienced EDC at the LA Coliseum, you witnessed a historic chapter in Rave history. It was the absolute peak of the 2000s era; Where the music, the massive crowds, and the historic venue created a unique vibe that can never be replicated.

Created in 1993, the original Insomniac logo was a staple of the early Los Angeles warehouse Raves. Founder Pasquale Rotella confirmed in 2016 that the famous five-dot design was actually inspired by the classic Krylon spray paint logo.

In 2005, the classic design evolved into a more intricate graphic that looked like a blooming flower or a guitar fret, while still keeping the iconic dots.

That version represented the massive 2010s EDM boom until 2018, when Insomniac celebrated its 25th anniversary by creating the modern, minimalist "eye" logo they use today. Which era of the Insomniac logo is your favorite? Let us know below!

Created in 1993, the original Insomniac logo was a staple of the early Los Angeles warehouse Raves. While Ravers spent years debating if the image showed a crescent moon or a person eating candy, founder Pasquale Rotella confirmed in 2016 that the famous five-dot design was actually inspired by the classic Krylon spray paint logo.

In 2005, the graphic received a clean, sharpened update. This specific version became the ultimate symbol of the 2000s dance music era, seen across countless tickets and promotional flyers for historic Raves like Electric Daisy Carnival and Nocturnal Wonderland.

The flyer for Together As One 2001 that ran in Los Angeles Newspapers.

Two major Rave promoters, Insomniac Events and Go Ventures, teamed up to make this historic event happen on NYE 1999. For over a decade, Together As One was the biggest New Year's party on the West Coast.

This specific Rave on was a real turning point and showed how American Rave culture was changing. Instead of throwing underground parties in secret warehouses like in the 90s, promoters were now packing huge, legal venues.

Taking over the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena, the party brought tens of thousands of Ravers together with Trance, House, Techno, and Drum and Bass. Massive Raves like this helped make Southern California a true hub for Dance Music.

Nocturnal Wonderland 2001 was produced by Insomniac at the Havasu Landing Resort in Lake Havasu, AZ with over 20k Ravers in attendance.

This historic massive Rave featured the first Tiesto set in America and hosted over 9 stages of Electronic Dance Music until 8am.

Nocturnal being held 5 hours outside of LA was due to the attack on Rave culture from the Media and Government that started in the early 2000s. The year before, Nocturnal Wonderland was famously held at the Coachella Polo Fields in Indio, CA with over 40k in attendance.

I am heartbroken to share the passing of Reza Gerami, a pillar of Rave Culture in Los Angeles since the early 90s.

With Go Ventures, he produced legendary Raves like Together As One & Monster Massive.

He spread peace and love by uniting thousands of people to dance & celebrate music in places that felt like home.

Our culture would not be the same without Reza and his impact will never be forgotten.

He was a great friend and mentor and will be dearly missed, I hope we can carry on his legacy.

Rest in Peace brother Reza.
