Sunny Side Up was a groundbreaking daytime Rave, organized by Ricky Bonilla and the Fresh Produce crew, taking place on May 13, 1995, at the Venice Beach Pavilion in Venice, California.

During the mid-90s, Raves were almost exclusively held in warehouse or desert locations that ran until 6 to 10 the next morning. Fresh Produce took a major risk by hosting a free, daytime outdoor rave that ran from Noon to 7PM on the Venice boardwalk.

Insomniac's Electric Daisy Carnival 2010 in Los Angeles was a historic, record-breaking, and controversial two-day massive legal Rave, notable for being the last EDC held at the LA Memorial Coliseum, drawing an enormous crowd, and facing public scrutiny.

With over 180k Ravers over 2 days, EDC took over Los Angeles and established Raves as something bigger than just the underground, it was now a part of mainstream culture.

Due to the controversies, safety incidents, and political fallout, organizer Insomniac Events was forced out of the Coliseum, causing EDC to permanently move to Las Vegas starting in 2011.

On New Year’s Eve 2001, Together As One made history as the first time a major American stadium hosted a legal Rave.

Held across the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Los Angeles Sports Arena, the massive Rave drew a record-breaking crowd of over 40,000 to ring in the new millennium.

This Historic SoCal Rave was the result of a rare partnership between the biggest promoters; Go Ventures, Insomniac, & Coolworld.

Here's some pictures sent to us by a Raver from Insomniac's Electric Daisy Carnival 2001 that took place at the Hansen Dam Recreation Park in Lakeview Terrace, CA.

2001 was the first year the Rave leaned heavily into the carnival theme by naming the stages after carnival rides. Due to scrutiny on Raves in 2001, the hours were strictly from the afternoon until midnight.

A rare piece of Rave History from .blakemore aka DJ Trance, about NOSturnal 1996, they called it.

When Nocturnal Wonderland '96 was shut down early around 2am, wasn't satisfied and threw a thank you/makeup party the following weekend. With a stage setup inside a U haul to protect from the wind, DJ Trance, Fester, Thomas Micheal, and others, took over the decks and kept the music going.

The first picture is of .blakemore & friends waiting it out around 9am in the middle of the desert, for a AAA truck to come and get them a new key so they could get home. Even Pasquale stayed and waited with everyone.

Insomniac's Nocturnal Wonderland 1999 was originally supposed to take over the abandoned Lake Dolores waterpark, but right before it was set to start, permitting issues forced a last minute venue change. Insomniac had to move the Rave out to a Native American reservation in Anza, just past Temecula, CA.

These pictures were taken after sunrise by a Raver and capture the morning after a historic Socal Rave.

In August 1999, B3Cande's JuJuBeats Rave returned to the mountains, bringing over 15,000 ravers up the Angeles Crest Highway to Snowcrest Ski Resort. Following the success of the previous year's mountain venue, this event showed just how massive the Southern California scene was becoming, packing out the slopes high up in the San Gabriel Mountains.

These candid photos were captured on film by a Raver, just after the sun was coming up. They give a firsthand look at the energy on the mountain after surviving the night, capturing the dust, the morning light, and the people who stayed until the very end of this legendary piece of SoCal Rave History.
