No one person or party owns the United States. Those of us who choose to celebrate the 4th, do so with the knowledge that we are celebrating something much bigger than this moment.

Celebrating the 4th of July has always been aspirational. For Black and Indigenous Americans, particularly, this country has never lived up to its ideals. Our forefathers knew that better than most.

But understand that if you see a Black or Indigenous person choosing to celebrate this nation’s birth, we are celebrating the promise of what it could be. We’re choosing to focus on the determination, the resilience and the indomitable spirit of American citizens who continue to insist that this nation live up to its ideals.

WE are as much a part of this nation’s identity as anyone. And we will not allow anyone to take that away from us.

With Zohran Mamdani’s primary win in the New York City mayoral race, there’s a renewed interest in the definition of “Democratic Socialism.” In my estimation, this term is quite misunderstood — even by people who closely identify with it. Here’s a portion of a Breakdown I did on the spectrum of social and political theories that we rarely hear defined. Knowledge is power. Pass it on....

Can they do away with birthright citizenship? What is the basis for challenging it? Let’s take a look at the 14th amendment, shall we? PS, my voice sounds way better than it did two days ago.
