We came to Iceland to chase the Northern Lights. But we’re also stopping to say hello to every cat in Reykjavík. 🐈

Interesting fact: Reykjavík is filled with cats, and there’s a reason why.

Dogs were banned in Reykjavík for 60 years, from 1924 to 1984, largely due to health and housing concerns. During that time, cats became the city’s favorite pets.

Today, many of the cats you see wandering around Reykjavík aren’t strays. They’re someone’s very spoiled pets who are allowed to roam freely.

Some cats have even become local celebrities, regularly visiting specific shops and businesses around the city. There are even guided walking tours dedicated to meeting Reykjavík’s famous cats.

NOVEMBER 2026 STARGAZING CALENDAR 🌌

The Milky Way core may be gone for the season, but that doesn’t mean stargazing season is over.

November brings long, dark nights, two Taurid meteor shower peaks, and the Leonids.

✨ Best dark sky travel window: November 3–13
🌑 New Moon: November 8
☄️ Southern Taurids Peak: November 4–5
☄️ Northern Taurids Peak: November 11–12
☄️ Leonids Peak: November 16–17
🌕 Full Moon: November 24

By November, the bright Milky Way core we photograph throughout spring and summer is no longer visible in the evening sky. But there’s still plenty to see.

Around the new moon, darker skies make it easier to see more stars, bright constellations, star clusters, and the fainter details of the night sky. And November gives you several chances to catch shooting stars.

The Southern and Northern Taurids are relatively low-rate meteor showers, but they’re known for producing occasional bright fireballs. The Leonids arrive later in the month and are known for fast-moving meteors.

And the same rule we use for almost every stargazing trip still applies: check the moon before you book.

Even an incredible dark-sky destination can look completely different under a bright moon. For the darkest conditions, we generally plan trips within about five days before or after the new moon. That makes November 3–13 our preferred window this month.

Save this for your November stargazing plans.

👇 Comment NIGHT below and we’ll DM you links to our Under the Stars newsletter, our favorite dark-sky stays, and our travel photography shop.

Some trips don’t just show you a destination. They change the way you see the world.

Our Greenland: Disko Bay & Beyond expedition with Polar Latitudes this September was one of those trips.

We spent the week traveling along Greenland’s west coast, waking up to a different view every morning. Massive icebergs, remote fjords, whales, and some of the most incredible Arctic scenery we’ve ever seen. We even watched the Northern Lights from the ship as we sailed through the fjords.

There’s something pretty special about exploring places most people will never get to see in their lifetime.

That’s one of the reasons we love traveling with Polar Latitudes. Their expedition ships are small and intimate, with balcony cabins, outdoor jacuzzis, a sauna, steam room, great food, and huge windows so you don’t miss the scenery even when you’re inside.

And we’re planning our next Arctic adventure.

🇳🇴 September 7–16, 2027: Svalbard, Norway

We’re hosting a small group on a 10-day expedition around Svalbard, exploring remote fjords, glaciers, and Arctic landscapes while looking for polar bears, walrus, whales, Arctic foxes, and reindeer. And with September bringing back beautiful Arctic sunsets, there will be plenty to enjoy long after the day’s excursions.

Can’t join us in Svalbard? You can still use our exclusive discount.

We’ve partnered with Polar Latitudes to offer an exclusive discount code valid on any of their Arctic expeditions in 2027, not just our Svalbard group trip. So whether you want to explore Greenland, Svalbard, or another Arctic itinerary, you can choose the expedition and dates that work best for you.

👇 Comment PLX and we’ll DM you our exclusive discount code, along with the itinerary for our Svalbard group trip!

If you’d like to join our group, you’ll book the September 7–16 sailing directly through Polar Latitudes using our code, and they’ll mark your reservation as part of our group.

This was from our Greenland: Disko Bay & Beyond expedition with Polar Latitudes this September.

We spent the week traveling along Greenland’s west coast, surrounded by icebergs, fjords, wildlife and some of the most unreal Arctic scenery we’ve ever seen. We even caught the Northern Lights since it was dark enough during that voyage.

We loved traveling through the Arctic with Polar Latitudes because you get to explore places most people will never see in their lifetime, without roughing it.

Their expedition ships are small and luxurious. Balcony cabins, outdoor jacuzzis, sauna, steam room, great food, and huge windows.

We’re planning a small group trip to Svalbard, Norway from September 7–16, 2027, where we’ll travel all the way around Svalbard looking for polar bears, walrus, whales, Arctic foxes and reindeer, with glaciers, fjords and watch beautiful Arctic sunsets along the way.

Can’t make our Svalbard dates? We also have an exclusive discount code you can use on any Polar Latitudes Arctic expedition in 2027.

Comment PLX and we’ll DM you the link to our Svalbard trip and our exclusive discount code.

If you join our group, you’ll book the September 7–16 sailing directly through Polar Latitudes using our code, and they’ll mark your reservation as part of our group.

We’ve been to Greenland twice now, once traveling by land and air (last September), and once exploring by sea (this September), and we loved both experiences.

Last year, we spent a week exploring it on our own by land and air. Here’s our one week itinerary.
