Filmmaker, skater, actor, English teacher, world traveler: Rachelle is a polymath. New York-based, though spending a fair amount of time all over, Rachelle came up through the city’s skate scene. Rachelle’s mix of skating, filmmaking, and naturalistic performance has made her a distinctive figure in the overlap between skate culture and independent cinema. Lately, Rachelle has been skating more and balling just as much, so we met up on the court in Ridgewood before taking a stroll through Queens and having a peek into the coolest Zero Skateboards duffel we’ve ever seen thanks to our friends at Wyld . Wow – That’s a wrap on our inaugural Upstarters showcase at Bigsound. Upstarters was created by Up and Monster Children , in association with BIGSOUND to give emerging Australian artists a leg up by offering a grand prize of $20K to help with the next stages of their musical career.

After almost 500 submissions from artists all around Australia, the five finalists performed a kick-ass showcase in Brisbane, with Local the Neighbour crowned as the winner and walking away with TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!
Congratulations again to all our finalists; stimpies , Any Young Mechanic , Local the Neighbour , 𝕸𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖞 𝕾𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖊 & kate moth . Thanks to everyone for coming out, and an extra special thanks to BC Fleetwood Mick from the Dune Rats for being our master of ceremony.

See you next year BIGSOUND :)

Radiohead are coming back to Australia. The Last time I saw them in Sydney it was 2012 at the Entertainment Centre, King of Limbs era, and I still think about it more than I probably should. Fifteen years is a long time to wait for a setlist to rearrange your nervous system again. 2027, I’ll be there. Remote Control Records Frontier Touring

Ken doesn’t chase good light, she waits for it to confess something. every frame she takes feels unfinished on purpose, a little raw, a little defiant, entirely true. this is what it looks like when a girl picks up a camera and refuses to soften herself for it. Playlist in the bio 🤍

To five of our favorite Australian artists who played our BIGSOUND showcase - 𝕸𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖞 𝕾𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖊 Local the Neighbour stimpies Any Young Mechanic kate moth - an enormous thank you, it was a hell of a time. We are absolutely delighted to announce the winner of Up + Monster Children ‘s artist support initiative Upstarters and the winner of the grand prize of $20,000 dollars: Local the Neighbour .

Atta-frickin’-boy, mate. What will he do with all that cash? Hopefully buy us a Guinness or forty. We’ll check in in a couple of months and find out where that money went, but in the meantime, congratulations, and thanks again. Link in bio.

Ella jumped a steel bird from Sydney to Brisbane, ostensibly for BIGSOUND , though the reasons one goes anywhere are never quite so simple. What she found there: the bars worth drinking in, the food worth ordering twice, and most importantly the bands worth the walk. She is telling you plainly. No filler - thanks to Young Henrys for keeping us hydrated for the week 🍻

Ella jumped on a big steel bird from Sydney to Brisbane, ostensibly for BIGSOUND though the reasons one goes anywhere are never quite so simple. What she found there; the bars worth drinking in, the food worth ordering twice, and most importantly the bands worth the walk — she is telling you plainly. No filler. And cheers to Young Henrys for the hydration for the week ahead.
