the original team: Laurence Pearce was the main band reviewer and did a great job. He went on to review bands for many other online magazines. Black Rainbow was an LA synth-wave DJ who submitted material for zine #3 that was never released. Dylan Gordan is a Los Angeles based photographer who was the primary shooter at Part Time Punks in Echo Park. His photos are posted on a site called Dirty Snapshots. I was tracking down new synth bands and setting up interviews. The SS team was poised to dominate a fast growing west coast minimal synth scene... unfortunately the scene died as fast as it was formed. I remember the night it started, some lame-ass old dude from the LA Times came to Part Time Punks on a Thursday night and while leaving the club I overheard him talking about "how lame this new synthesizer music scene is and how it's lacking in depth and how untalented the singers were" F**k his arrogant attitude and lack of support. Shortly after his negative review, the band Violet Tremors broke up and then it was a slow spiral around the drain for the rest of the LA based minimal synth bands looking for bookings at venues. I often feel if the scene had a bit more community support it could have grown into a legitimate genre.

VIOLET TREMORS!! when SynthScene launched in 2011 one of the first bands we interviewed was Violet Tremors, a powerhouse synth duo that helped spearhead the growing minimal synth scene on the west coast. Lorene + Jessica formed a fantastic duo that had a short but prolific life as a synth band and released the epic vinyl LP "Time Is The Traitor" Below is a page from the SynthScene fanzine with their interview...
SoundCloud has this blurb about the current state of these musicians:
Jessica White & Lorene Simpson are no longer active as Violet Tremors as of 2013...you can check out their new projects here:

Lorene - synths & beats
-sedition
Jessica - vocals

( SS will write blurbs about every band we interviewed)

My name is Jeff and I sold SynthScene to Taylor Noir in Los Angeles. He/She did their best but let the label fade away due to unrealistic sales expectations. I moved to the east coast and bought the label back for $1. SynthScene will review+release CD compilations of modern bands who rely heavily on synths+drum machines. Here is SYNTHSCENE - Northern Hemisphere Synth Band Compilation #2 (2025 re-issue) link below:

SynthScene #1 printed fanzine (yes I will release more!) came with the original CD and had pages dedicated to live shows. Here are more reviews from the once prolific Los Angeles live synth scene of 2011 written by Larry P.... TERMINAL TWILIGHT (great name!), LED ER EST, SWAHILI, JOHN MAUS, TEARIST, NERVOUS GENDER... sadly the current LA synth scene is a shadow of it's former glory.

in 2011 there was a US synth-band revival occurring due to a proliferation of great sounding small+inexpensive synthesizers hitting the market and Los Angeles had their share of awesome synth bands. In SS #1 the printed fanzine (I will try to print more!) that came with the original CD had pages dedicated to live show reviews. Here are show reviews from 2011 written by Larry Petterson of the bands FRANK ALPINE, VICE DEVICE, SONOIO , LADYTRON, SECRET SOCIETY OF THE SONIC SIX and THE KINDEST LINES...

My name is Jeff Gallea and I sold SynthScene to Taylor Noir (not real name) in Los Angeles. He/She did their best but basically just let the CD label fade away due to unrealistic sales expectations. I bought the label back for $1 and hope to release more CD compilations of modern bands who rely heavily on synths+drum machines. Kunaki canceled the original 2 CD releases so I will start be re-releasing them.
Here is SYNTHSCENE - North American Synth Band Compilation #1 / 2011-2017 ...

Some bad news, the SynthScene Bandcamp page was gutted by copyright robots! Two (jealous) people complained about our bootleg compilations releases so bandcamp deleted the 3 most popular albums :
90's Techno … 40 Years of Synth Punk... 80's New Wave Remixes... all gone :(
Consider yourself lucky if you got digital song downloads from these comps! They are no longer available on Bandcamp but still available on CD.

I think I will sell the label and concentrate on other projects
