I found out my husband did not tell his mom that I am the owner of the car he has been driving. Rather he told her he bought the car, so every time I want to drive out his mom would say her daughter in her husband's house jumps buses why is my husband giving me the freedom of driving his car when his sister is using public transport in her husband's house?. Is it not the same marriage that her daughter married? I have kept my cool for so long. One day when I wanted to drive out with my kids and my girlfriend she said she's coming along. I didn't have a problem with that but I knew that she wouldn't just maintain peace.

We drove to spa, on our way back I dropped my hairs with my stylist, and the girl congratulated me on seeing a new car, my mother in-law did not allow her to end her statement she told the girl not to congratulate me she should wait till she sees the owner of the car. I didn't say anything.

We drove back to sda because I forgot something, she asked my friend if she too will be dropped at her place, my friend said yes, my mother in-law said it will be a very long drive that no wonder my husband always ask me if there's anything I would need, so he won't give me the car keys. I told her that's not the reason, because I didn't want to be the one to tell her it's my car, my sweat, my hard work. I wanted her son to tell her.

When I dropped my friend she came to the front seat and said she doesn't like the way my friend was balancing in front not giving her respect as the mother of the man that owns the car.

When we got home I asked my husband why he didn't tell his mom the car belonged to me. He asked must he tell his mom everything? I said yes because his mom seems to know everything in our house especially things he buys with his own money, so now I bought a car why didn't he tell her so that she could at least keep her mouth shvt for a minute. This is exactly how I said it, he said I have insvlted his mom. Where is the insvlt? Anytime I took my car keys to drive out this woman must give me instructions on how to drive that her son is not like her daughter's husband or his own dad. She's so b!tter that I am driving her son's car. Car I bought with my sweat.

It didn't end there o, because I love respecting myself and giving people the tr0vble they seek so I didn't tell her the car is mine in my name and everything.

I was sleeping when I heard her and her son whispering to each other, she was telling my husband to call his younger brother so that when he drives out, he could bring the car back to pick her to a salon, he told her I would do that when I drop him, I will come back and pick her to the saloon, she said no, that my husband should not give me too much opportunity to be driving his car, he was mute, his mom called my husband's younger brother to come and drive him hubby. When she dropped the call, she asked him who's name is on the car, hubby said my name is on it, the woman sh0vted, he told her to speak in low tones as I was sleeping. She went ahead and asked him why he didn't use his name or her name or even his brothers name. Hubby said I am his wife, she said and so? Then she referred to her daughter's husband that he's sensible unlike my husband.

Not long my husband's brother came and they drove out. He came back to pick his mom and I told him to bring the car once he drops her in the saloon. I was to go out, for three hours he didn't come back, their mom later came back using public transport. I asked her where her son is , she said he's a grown up he can be anywhere he likes. I called him several times he didn't answer. I called hubby, he said he will call him , then he called again and said he's not picking. Hubby later came back using a public transport, when I started talking he said nothing, his mom was defending his son that he's an adult and can go out with his brother's car. I knew it was time for them to know who owns the car. I waited for the young man's return. By 10pm he was back, the moment he walked inside the sitting where everyone was waiting calling him nonstop, I stood up and collected the keys from him, I announced to all of them that it took me three years to save up millions just to buy that car. And nobody should ever give me headaches when I use what I worked for. All the money was from my pocket and in my name , enough. I walked to our room. Hubby came in and said em em I ah e announced it finally hope he can now rest that I want everyone to know I bought a car, I reminded him how he has tell his family he bought AC, television, this and that, so I'm helping him. So for two days his mom refused to come out from her room. Yesterday she told hubby she will be going to her son's place. They are not happy that I announced what I bought. Was I wrong? Because everything is always announced in this house to his family, this particular announcement he refused to do the needful I had to.

PART 2

After that night in the library, something in me broke and rebuilt.

I didn’t tell anybody. I just started waking up 5AM.
Before cleaners, before friends. I would wipe one desk, open my books, and read.

No data. No handouts.
I borrowed textbooks and copied everything with my hand. When money finish, I started frying puff-puff by my hostel to buy food and photocopy.

My roommates would laugh: “Ada don turn bookworm”
“Who send you? Just carryover and go home.”

I didn’t answer them. I just kept turning pages. Rain or shine. No light or light.

300 Level came. My CGPA was climbing small.
But the fear was still there: What if I fail final year?

Then 400 Level came. And that’s when everything tested me again…

Drop a ❤️ if you’re rooting for Ada.
PART 3 drops tomorrow.

True Life Story. Port Harcourt Girl

They Said “I Would Be Withdrawn"
I don’t even know why I’m sharing this today.
But maybe someone needs to hear it.

My name is Ada.
First daughter of a bus driver from Diobu. 6 of us in one room.

I wrote JAMB and scored 287. I was the pride of my street. Every now and then, they would shout “Doctor Ada don come o”. I believed it too.

I got admitted into the University of Portharcourt. Then 100 Level hit me like slap. 1.8 CGPA. 3 carryovers.
Second semester was worse. 1.5 CGPA.
HOD called me to his office one fateful day that broke my heart
HOD: “Miss Ada, if you don’t sit up, we’ll withdraw you.”

I went home that day and didn’t talk.
My mother just cooked and kept looking at me.
My father didn’t shout. He just went to park his bus in silence.
That silence hurt me more than shouting.

Neighbours started: “University no be by force.”
I stopped going to class. I was ashamed.
I would carry my books and go to Central Library… not to read. To sit and cry.

One evening rain was falling. No light.
Only one small generator was on in one corner of the library. Golden light.
I sat there alone with one torn notebook.

And I wrote: “If I fail, who will believe the next girl from my street?”

I didn’t know that night would change everything…
