Kobe Bryant’s final pair of NBA shoes has a pretty incredible story.
On April 13, 2016, Kobe walked onto the court for the final time wearing the Nike Kobe 11 Elite Low “Fade to Black.” He dropped 60 points against the Jazz, ending his 20-year career in the most Kobe way possible.
The shoes were especially fitting. The black-and-gold Kobe 11 was the final installment of Nike’s 13-shoe “Fade to Black” collection, created to represent the evolution of Kobe’s career.
And unlike most game-worn memorabilia, Kobe’s actual final-game shoes didn't simply disappear into a private collection.
They were eventually put up for auction, with the pair reportedly selling for $98,525. The shoes were inscribed with “4.13.16”, forever marking the night Kobe walked away from basketball.
Think about that.
The shoes that carried Kobe through his final 60-point masterpiece, the last shoes he ever wore in an NBA game, are now worth nearly $100,000.
