My name is Bill Kearney, I'm the author and sole owner of all rights to my novel and screenplay, 'COMPED.' The storyline is based on true events that occurred during the High-Roller life I once lived in the early ’80's in Atlantic City. Back then there were only commercial casinos in Nevada and New Jersey. Atlantic City casinos like Las Vegas lured in over thirty million people annually, but unlike Las Vegas where most gamblers flew or drove in from miles away and stayed an average of three days, those who came to Atlantic City got there on less than a tank of gas. This gave the casino operators there a captive audience, an audience that would come back day after day, week after week.
Many of those who came to Atlantic City during that time never gambled in casinos, and most likely never would have. Some came and gambled away their disposable income, what I've written is the untold horror story of one of the many who gambled away their life. What happened in Atlantic City in those early years is why Las Vegas, known then as (Sin City) became a family destination. It's also why we have commercial casinos today in just about every state. Add that with other forms of gambling now legal, (sports betting) being promoted on a daily basis on every means of media and lawmakers from both parties assuring us that casino gambling is no different than going to the ballpark or theater gives, "COMPED," a built-in audience.
STORYLINE:
Richie Venture (AKA) "Richie the Taylor,” in the early 80’s was a loving family man, successful aggressive entrepreneur in Philadelphia, and who like many others back then was a first-time casino gambler in Atlantic City. He lived it up with those so-called casino freebies, “COMPS,” along with other casino perks that only "HIGH ROLLERS” are offered. Once the inevitable happens and his hard-earned fortune is gone, he doubles down with the casinos' interest-free credit while using and losing mob money that he's laundering in the casinos. After dodging a bullet from the mob, incarceration by the Fed’s, exhausting all means legal/illegal to feed his casino obsession, along with his livelihood and loved ones gone, he makes his last “BUY-IN.”
"COMPED," is a two-year period piece, 1984 to 1986, as a full-length feature, or series, it will not only be entertaining, but it will also help others from becoming what I once was. I'm working on a sequel that tells the story of my crusader against the casino industry, and how lawmakers from both parties crushed it. Some of what I'm talking about can be seen in the links below.

The link below will take you to the trailer for a movie from the 60's, "Days of Wine and Roses," starring Jack Lemmon. It is by far the best movie ever made addressing alcoholism. Before the trailer ends Jack Lemmon talks about his alcoholic role in the movie. He never mentions anything about his own drinking problem, but he knew how important it was for others to see this story on film. I believe "COMPED," on film will not only be entertaining, but it will also help others from becoming what I once was.
