Check out the latest episode of The Tech Jawn.

Facebook suffered its biggest outage ever on Monday, but, the damage done via configuration changes on backbone routers may pale in comparison to the damage control Facebook does in an effort to not become regulated.

Amazon held its Fall Product Event and announced several new devices including 15” Echo Show, a $1000 two-foot-tall robot that can bring you drinks, and an autonomous flying security drone called the Always Home Cam.

Twitter is back on in Nigeria after being banned by the country back in June after taking down one of President Buhari’s Tweets.

And we dive into what receipts Facebook Whistle Blower, Frances Haugen has provided to the SEC and what she might say before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security.

Good day knowledgeable peeps! Long time listener, first time writer. As I've been listening to the show the last couple of days and the coverage of "Home Automation" at CES, I'm realizing more and more that these companies need to stop making wifi and cloud based iot devices!!!!!!! C'mon, not only is it a security issue, but it's also a major point of failure. Look at Smart Things. their servers went offline 2 times this week and everyone using them did not have control of their devices. These companies need to take hints from companies like Hubitat and Homeseer that make their products 100% locally processed using industry standards such as z-wave and zigbee. Controllers like Alexa and Google should be secondary so that in the event of internet or server failure when someone walks into a room, those lights should still come on at 10% and the TV turns on their favorite channel to select a movie and hunker down without yelling "Hey G-word! set movie scene!" This is the way HA should run and not go the way of Wink & Smart Things. You can buy sensors that monitor motion, temp, humidity, acceleration, and light for as little as 15.00 that can be a trigger for what ever you want including Alexa and Google. Bottom line? Get off the darn cloud!!!! /end rant!
My card finally arrived!
Rich and his co-host, Scott Johnson, don't seem to understand that all Blackberry phones, in the last 5 years, are stock Android phones. The new Blackberry phone will also be a stock Android phone with Blackberry apps. The Blackberry phones are much better built than Apple or Samsung phones. You will never be replacing a cracked screen on a Blackberry phone.
What was the online service Tom bought his car through? I can't find its name anywhere...
Why yes.... yes I can.
With all of the remote working, what's your favorite Zoom/Teams background? I've got too many to list, but this is one of mine.
Hi, Looking for suggestions for the most userfriendly (but still secure) password manager. I use Keepass synced to Dropbox, which I like, but my partner wants to start using a password manager and I fear that Keepass will be intimidating and bothersome for her. Ideally looking for something that syncs passwords and integrates with Android (including Chrome if possible?) and Windows

Have this podcast ever discussed virtual reality? I'm relatively new to it but I'm very interested. I recently watched “Empathy, Inc.” It explores virtual reality in a new light. Infusing technology into his screenplay, Mark Leidner shows a personal twist on Empathy, Inc. Giving the privileged upper class more “empathy” and appreciation for their own life, this futuristic XVR system works in theory but quickly spirals out of control. With its creative XVR technology and riveting plot, I think this independent thriller is a great watch! It is out on VOD now!
OK, partly I just need to vent to people who will understand but I'm also curious if any other Xfinity customers have had this problem: I have the rental modem/router from Xfinity (yes I know I should probably just buy my own but as often as standards change I figured it was easier just to take theirs. I keep it in bridge mode and use my own Asus router and a second AiMesh access point. When I swapped out modems a couple of years ago for better speed, it was a model that supported their XfinityWifi hotspot. I didn't want another wifi network broadcasting in my house so I disabled it before I put the router in bridge mode. you can't disable it once it is in bridge mode. The setting grays out. But, it kept turning back on. I contacted support and the 3rd time, I think, they finally turned it off and it stayed off. Last month, I upgraded modems again to get gig service and have the same issue. On top of that, I was chatting with one of their reps and their solution (against my objections) was to disable bridge mode on my router so the option would un-gray for me. This of course killed our chat session since I lost internet connectivity immediately. I spent the next 10 minutes setting it back up again. I have the hotspot disabled but I fully expect it to come back. Anyone know how to keep it off? I think it's interfering with my 2.4 ghz devices. I have a Harmony hub for my entertainment center and it stops responding intermittently when that damn xfinity network is active. It only does 2.4ghz which is pretty crowded. It really ticks me off that they make it so hard to disable and then it comes back to life like a zombie you can't kill. I should be able to control what is broadcasting in my own house!
Heard on the "Beer with Talos" podcast: Why doesn't Apple just buy Bloomberg, print a retraction, then sell it again?
