The list of things women have to do to protect themselves vs. the list of things men have to do to not assault them is pretty egregious. Have THOSE conversations with your sons. If the focus is on how women can protect themselves and things women shouldn’t do, then you should know who the problem is. Saying “what do women expect when…” is admitting you know who the problem is. FIX THE PROBLEM.

Libby Klinner posted that the Air Force told her that because war was never officially declared, she and her children aren’t eligible for some benefits tied to her husband’s death. Major John Alexander Klinner was 33. He’d been promoted in January and deployed less than a week when his refueling aircraft crashed in Iraq in March, killing him and five other crew members. He left behind seven-month-old twins and a two-year-old. The Air Force says it spoke with her Monday to make sure she receives everything she’s entitled to, and the review is ongoing. This landed the same week Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on CNBC that there haven’t been American deaths in Iran. At least fourteen service members have died and hundreds have been wounded. A war Congress never voted on is still a war to the families burying someone. You can’t call it not-a-war on television and expect the paperwork to know the difference. A federal official came forward to Senator Richard Blumenthal warning that the Postal Service’s new mail ballot system is set up to fail. The whistleblower describes development of the ballot portal as rushed, risky and haphazard, with standard testing eliminated to hit an impossible September 1 deadline, creating what they call a substantial risk of catastrophic failure that could derail the midterm elections. The design means a single unreadable barcode in a batch of 10,000 ballots can get all 10,000 rejected and sent back. Blumenthal says the system was designed to disenfranchise millions of Americans. The whistleblower also alleges staff were told to keep building it while court orders barred implementation. North Carolina starts sending mail ballots Friday. Ten days ago I told you the Postal Service made itself the gatekeeper of your ballot. Now someone inside is saying the gate is broken. Request your ballot early, track it, and don’t wait. Gloria Steinem died Wednesday at her home in New York City at 92, surrounded by people who loved her. She co-founded Ms. Magazine, coined the phrase reproductive freedom, and went undercover as a Pl***oy Bunny in 1963 to expose how those women were treated. She spent sixty years on the road speaking at campuses and community centers because she believed you can’t build a movement over the phone. She opened her living room for talking circles with hundreds of guests. She stood at the 2017 Women’s March and said we will not be quiet. She was still working for equality when she died, with a memoir due this fall. Her generation won the right for women to get a credit card without a man’s signature, walk into schools that had barred them, and make decisions about their own bodies. Some of that has already been taken back. She knew that and kept going anyway. Light a candle, then pick up where she left off. What are you willing to do with the rights she won for you? I debated talking about this but I want it to open up a conversation. I fully believe progressives and liberals hearts are in the right place. But alot of them have yet to wrestle with how some of their own practices are heavy on the micro aggressions and low key racism. And this is in nearly every space. No matter how well intentioned they are, there is still work to do. I know this first hand. I know how conservatives view us, but they also know how to weaponize the short comings of some progressives. This is really a conversation we need to have.

When we limit our ability to emphasize base on who looks like us we are saying loudly we don’t see the other persons experience as worth of empathy.
