Actors, writers, creators, artists! If you’re struggling with your creativity or are in need of some inspiration, look to The Artist’s Way. I took this course (via Zoom) at the end of 2020. It helped me get through the book. I’d never done that before, in spite of having the book on my shelf for years. It really gave me the boost I needed.
Jen Seifert leads this group once a week for 12 weeks and she’s wonderful. The next one starts April 18.
Go to www.JenniferSeifert.com for more info. Be sure to tell Jen that Retta sent you!

Patience and persistence.
“(Mackie and Morgan Freeman) did ‘Million Dollar Baby’ together, and when we were shooting this movie, I got offered a play. When you do Off Broadway, it’s $425 a week. In New York, that’s really $75 per week. I got a movie offer at the same time, and it was buckets of money. Three Home Depot buckets of money were going to be dropped off at my door.... The script was awful; the whole thing was slimy. I went to Morgan’s trailer and asked him what he would do. He took a second and said, ‘Do the play. When Hollywood wants you, they’ll come get you. And when they come get you, they’ll pay for it.’ That blew my mind, and I left him that day with such a massive amount of confidence. He’s been a huge influence on me.”
For his entire tenure as an Avenger, Anthony Mackie had never been the first name on the call sheet. In a galaxy of stars populated by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, the act…

A good update on what the industry looks like right now.
As the calendar turns to a new year, that traditionally brings the start of pilot season for the five broadcast networks. Considering that pilot season 2020 was completely upended when production halted in March at the outset of the pandemic, this year is anything but business as usual as many of la...

Before he died, a father said to his son, “Here is a watch that your grandfather gave me. It is almost 200 years old. Before I give it to you, go to the jewelry store downtown. Tell them that I want to sell it, and see how much they offer you."
The son went to the jewelry story, came back to his father, and said, "They offered $150.00 because it's so old."
The father said, “Go to the pawn shop."
The son went to the pawn shop, came back to his father, and said, "The pawn shop offered $10.00 because it looks so worn."
The father asked his son to go to the museum and show them the watch.
He went to the museum, came back, and said to his father, “The curator offered $500,000.00 for this very rare piece to be included in their precious antique collections."
The father said, “I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way. Don't find yourself in the wrong place and get angry if you are not valued. Those that know your value are those who appreciate you, don't stay in a place where nobody sees your value."

Zane/Pillsbury Casting splits.
From Zane/Pillsbury Casting:
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the end of our company, ZANE/PILLSBURY CASTING, as we’ve known it. Through 20 years in our partnership, we evolved as individuals and as a company: 2 offices, 2 homes, 3 pregnancies, 4 children, over 100 pilots and series, and many talented and tireless assistants and associates.
The world changed significantly over the course of our partnership, and the business we work in and love evolved considerably as well. We survived a lot and managed to thrive. We had a successful business, we love each other, and now it’s time for the next chapter. We cherish our casting community, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have worked as partners in this industry for as long as we did. We will continue to work as casting directors - but sadly, not together.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, endured us, taken our calls, negotiated with us, suggested incredible actors and shared this amazing journey with us. Thank you for your business relationships and friendships, we could not have prevailed over the last two decades without you.
You have our emails and/or cellphone numbers and that is how we can be reached until further notice.
Stay safe and healthy everyone. We will see you on the other side of this.
With much love and gratitude,
Bonnie and Gayle
