Traveling with T1D might feel impossible.

But 21 years with Type 1 Diabetes and 28+ countries later, I’ve learned a lot about insulin, airports, time zones, healthcare abroad and all the unexpected things in between.

So that’s what this page is about: the practical stuff, the messy stuff and what actually works while traveling with T1D.

Diabetes is part of my live. I just don’t let it hold me back. So let’s see what the world brings.

What’s holding you back?

We spent around € 7,300 traveling through Mongolia.

And no, Mongolia itself wasn’t necessarily expensive.

We just chose to spend a lot on the experience.
The biggest part was our private all in 17-day countryside tour, which cost us € 5,500

What did surprise us was Ulaanbaatar. Food and accommodation in the capital were definitely more expensive than we expected.

And travelling with T1D added a little extra too.

Could we have done Mongolia cheaper? Definitely.

But after everything we saw and experienced and doing it on our own pace?

Totally worth every euro!

There’s always that one meal while travelling where you take the first bite and think… please don’t make me regret this tomorrow. 😅

Food poisoning is awful for anyone, but with Type 1 Diabetes it comes with a whole extra layer of managing blood sugars, insulin and dehydration.

Definitely not the kind of travel adventure I’m looking for.

I know every diagnosis story is different, so I’d love to hear yours: how did you find out?

Some days are messy. You’re still going anyway.

The hardest parts of Type 1 Diabetes are often the ones nobody sees.

After 21 years with T1D, I’ve become very good at brushing things off and carrying on. But being used to something doesn’t mean it never gets exhausting.

I’m learning that I can admit diabetes is hard sometimes and still refuse to let it make my world smaller.

Another plan. Another comparison. Another reason to wait.

And somehow, “not ready yet” became a really easy place to hide.

Whether it’s content creation, T1D, travel or something else, you can learn while you’re doing it.

You don’t need the perfect story before you start telling it.
Sometimes progress simply means showing up before you feel ready.

And doing it anyway.
