Black coat. Golden heart. My boy, Goku. 🖤✨

October 1 is National Black Dog Day—a day created to celebrate black dogs and bring attention to those who get overlooked when searching for a home.

That concern is often called “black dog syndrome.” Superstitions and unfair stereotypes can make black dogs seem intimidating, while dim photos can hide their eyes and expressions. Those perceptions can make finding a home harder, even though coat color says nothing about a dog’s personality.

Then I look at Goku, and I see my boy. My little shadow. The handsome guy with the tiny teefies, big personality, and a fancy shirt Bark Star Co | Dog • Fashion • Home who has his dad wrapped around his paw. 💚

It hurts to think that a dog like him could be passed by before someone gets to know him. Every black dog deserves someone who sees more than their coat—someone who sees a best friend.

Goku, being your dad is one of my favorite parts of life. Today I’m celebrating you and hoping more black dogs get the chance to become someone’s whole world, just like you became mine. 🖤🐾
