A gifted lyricist and librettist, Alice began her decades-long collaboration with composer Jane McNealy in the 1970s—a creative partnership rooted in deep friendship and shared vision. Together, they co-wrote ten original musicals that graced stages in the U.S. and abroad, earning accolades and touching audiences with their heartfelt storytelling 🎶🌍

The Lo-Flo Records team recently attended the music technology conference NAMM 🎹

Throughout her career, Lo-Flo’s Jane McNealy has embraced innovation in the studio, frequently incorporating synthesizers into her work. With Roland () and Korg () gear in her repertoire, it was exciting to see their latest offerings, as well as what cutting-edge companies like ASM () and Bitwig () have been working on.

Even though the legendary piano maker Steinway wasn’t in attendance this year, we were hoping to connect. Jane has two Steinway pianos - one is a 1928 parlor grand, which she composes on, and the other, an 1887 patent-pending Steinway grand piano, that originally belonged to her grandmother who was an opera singer with the Met (). This remarkable instrument has traveled all over the world and remains in pristine condition.

Cherishing this piano her whole life, Jane feels it is finally time to find it a new home. Any interest ?

Happy Holidays, Everyone! For the occasion, we’ve put together four jazz gems in this new release, “Lo-Flo Records Holiday Sessions” featuring the talents of Henry Butler on piano and prolific composer Jane McNealy on synthesizer.

The tracks on the EP are instrumental versions of timeless McNealy compositions that originally featured vocalist Judy Karp.

Mined from McNealy’s archive, whose professional output dates back to the 1960s, these songs hearken back to the 1970s and ‘80s.

Three of the four tracks were performed by Sarah Vaughan in the twilight of her career, cementing their place in Jane’s storied catalog. Anchored by the extraordinary piano artistry of Henry Butler, the songs also include a stellar ensemble comprised of Andrew “Andy” Simpkins on bass (Sarah Vaughan’s long-time accompanist), Roy McCurdy on drums (a regular musician with with Nancy Wilson), Harold Battiste Jr. on saxophone (of Sonny & Cher fame), and a Jane herself on synthesizers 🎶🎄🎶
