Excited to share the latest Man of the House episode featuring author, filmmaker, faith leader, and my friend, Rich Pérez.

After nearly two decades as a pastor, Rich walked away from the pulpit, left New York, and moved his family to Atlanta to pursue work in film and TV. We dove into love as a decision, not a sentiment, what it takes to really be vulnerable, and who we become in the middle of all the uncertainty.

Latest episode about now everywhere you get your podcast. Links in the bio.

My father died at 66. I had two kids. I wanted to live longer than that.”

Mike de la Rocha’s father passed away, and in the grief, Mike realized something terrifying: he’d inherited all the same patterns that killed his dad early.

Emotional distance. Never asking for help. Holding everything in.

So he wrote Sacred Lessons: Teaching My Father How to Love—not just to memorialize his father, but to save his own life.
“I had to do something different. The only time I had intimate conversations with my father was when we were both drunk. That can’t be the legacy I leave my kids.”

“The strongest man I’ve ever met is the one who can cry publicly.”

Mike de la Rocha said this to me, and I felt it in my chest. Not just for him. For every man who’s been taught that tears are weakness. For every son watching his mother age. For every brother grieving in silence.

Mike’s been sober for a month. He’s written a bestselling book. He hosts a podcast on iHeart. He runs a coffee shop employing formerly incarcerated men. But the real work? It’s happening in private. In men’s circles. In moments of surrender. In learning that the strongest thing a man can do is cry without stopping himself.

This conversation was so much of what I needed. I hope it lands for you the same way.

Episode 2 of out now. Available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

Parents play specific roles in our lives. Fathers help establish the foundation for self-esteem and confidence, “good job, son!” when learning how to toss a baseball in the backyard. But mothers, in their uniquely nurturing role, teach us the importance of softness, empathy and intuition.

What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned from your parent? Let me know in the comments.

Trust and respect is the foundation of any relationship. We’ve been through some battles, gone weeks without speaking, had heated conversations, but we always come out on the other side with a deeper love and reverence for each other. Our relationship is the product of years of honest conversation, boundary setting, and respect.

What’s one thing you feel is nonnegotiable in building a healthy relationship with someone you love?

“ I have to be tougher on my son because I need him to be a man.”

I hear that a lot from mothers who are raising sons. The idea that tough love will make a stronger man is a recipe for hurt and resentment. Boys are sensitive, and that’s a good thing. What if we created spaces for boys to be human beings with a full range of emotions before we asked them to grow up too soon?

The best kind of story? The one you write yourself. 💯

We believe men have the power to step outside the box society built for them and write a narrative that’s truly theirs.

To explore this, we spoke with the incredible Sean Choi. Sean’s journey is a powerful reminder that when you ditch the default script (even when you weren’t given one) you create space for your experiences and chosen community to be the narrator of your life’s story.

What’s the script you are writing for yourself this upcoming year? 👇

Moments like this don’t come often. If the young men in your life are at the table this Thanksgiving, don’t let the food, the football, or the chaos distract you from what matters most. They’ll appreciate it more than you think.

What’s your favorite question to ask the young men in your life? 🤔
