I’ve had my new black sports band Apple Watch for about 2 months and have now developed some first impressions on what I think its impact could be on the custom electronics industry. Unlike the Apple touchscreen products (the iPhone and iPad) that came before, the Watch’s immediate role in home control and automation is not nearly as clear. It is most likely the reason that some large players in our industry are still on the sidelines. In early 2015 the San Jose Mercury News ran a featured story on cyberManor’s Best of Breed solution offerings. The solution in the photo above shows an iPad on a tilt and swivel mount in the bathroom of the cyberManor Experience Center Showcase. It is being used to control a TV streaming experience from the TiVo server in the home as well as music control in the bathroom from the Sonos powered stereo speaker in the bathroom ceiling.
