Town of Los Gatos
PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff
PG&E Potential Public Safety Power Shutoff

Attention Los Gatos! PG&E has announced a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) due to weather conditions including strong winds and overall high fire risk. This PSPS will affect Santa Clara County, including parts of Los Gatos, and may begin between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, October 9. It could potentially last up to 5 to 7 days.

During a PSPS, all Town services are expected to operate as normal with the exception of the Library, which may be closed. Please call ahead at (408) 354-6891 to check before visiting the Library during a PSPS.

Please prepare emergency plans and supplies for 5 to 7 days, especially medication that needs to be refrigerated. Other supplies should include flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, and cash.

For all information regarding the PSPS, including to check if your address will be affected, call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.

During a power shutoff, PG&E encourages residents to take these steps:
Unplug or turn off appliances, equipment, and electronics to avoid damage caused by surges when the power is restored.
Leave a single lamp on to alert you when the power returns. Then, turn your appliances on one at a time.
Typically, your refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours and a full freezer will keep its temperature for about 48 hours--if the freezer and refrigerator doors are kept closed. Consider using coolers with ice to keep food cold and safe.
Be sure to use generators, camp stoves, or charcoal grills outdoors only. Do not use a gas stove for heat.
Check on your neighbors.

PG&E will be opening a Community Resource Center at Avaya Stadium beginning on Wednesday, October 9th at 8:00 a.m. and it will remain open during daylight hours only. Restrooms, bottled water, electronic-device charging and air-conditioned seating for up to 100 people will be available. How's this for easy to remember?

Monday - Thursday 11 to 8; Friday - Sunday 11 to 5

Correction: New director is Ryan BAKER.

Ryan Baker will be the town's new library director. He comes from the delightful, Los Gatos-like SoCal city of Sierra Madre (just east of Pasadena) and he starts here July 31st.

Road Closed: From 9 to 3 weekends and holidays, the South Santa Cruz Avenue on-ramp to Highway 17 will be closed. Southbound traffic will be turned around and receive another chance to experience downtown Los Gatos dining and shopping opportunities. This experiment will be enforced Memorial Day to Labor Day. No more cutting through town, no matter what Waze says. What do you think?
