The garden bench is finished.

Dad spent the last month weaving sticks in the backyard.

He harvested a bunch of willow branches from down by the creek and just started bending them around a cedar frame. He used probably two hundred zip ties before replacing them all with actual woven vines. The dog is still not sure if it's furniture or a giant stick to chew on.

It actually holds my weight so I call it a win. 🪵🐶

The wings finally support themselves.

Four months of sewing and the wing structure finally holds.

I used about 12 yards of velvet and way too much heavy-gauge wire for the frame. My fingers are basically permanently calloused from hand-stitching the black lace over the wing joints. It weighs a ton but the harness hides perfectly under the corset.

Just need to hem the front and it is ready for the festival Saturday 😅

Dad took up basket weaving.

He got bored of making actual baskets pretty quickly. This is what happens when he has too much free time.

He spent the last three weekends twisting these leftover grapevines and willow branches together. His hands are completely covered in scratches. He finally dragged it out to the yard this morning.

The dog is still not sure if it is friendly. 🐉

My sister made a tea cozy.

She brought this over for Sunday brunch. She said a regular cover was too boring for Earl Grey.

She spent two weeks getting the stitch pattern right for the scales on the back. It fits perfectly over my old ceramic pot. Pouring tea feels like a whole event now.

It actually keeps the tea warm for hours too. 🫠

This took him all summer. He learned how to do it from watching videos online. Our neighbor Dave just stares at it over the fence now.

Every weekend for the last few months has involved a lot of sawdust. I'm just happy to have the garage back. He got the plans from a forum online and then changed basically everything.

Dad's retirement project is done.

He said he was going to do some 'light gardening.' That was six months ago.

The frame is made from metal rods he bent himself in the garage. He's been training the ivy every weekend since spring. He says the hardest part was keeping the birds from nesting in its head.

The neighbors have officially stopped asking questions. 🫠

First stained glass project is done.

I thought I'd start with something simple. I did not start with something simple.

It took three trips to the craft store for more solder and I definitely cut one of the wing pieces a little crooked. But it's done. I can finally stop finding tiny glass shards on the floor.

Mom finished the couch dragon.

She told us she was just knitting a throw blanket. That was four weeks ago.

Three trips to the yarn shop and about forty skeins later, the living room chair has been completely claimed. Dad tried sitting next to it and got bumped to the loveseat. It actually keeps the drafts away pretty well.

Anyway nobody is allowed to move it now. 🐉
