The Mystery Fighting Game list contains over 300 titles. It got me thinking, which years released the most fighting games? Though our list is as big as it is, it's still not comprehensive. However, the trending is pretty clear.

In the #1 spot: 1995 with 36 games
Runner up: 1996 with 30 games
Third place: 1994 with 25 games

When the arcade era came to a close, fighting game releases slowed down by a LOT, then picked up a little bit toward the end of the 2010s.

I appreciate everyone who came out to the Retro Game Swap Meet tonight! I know I had a great time meeting you.

If this momentum carries, my intention is to make it an every other month event. The next date will be sometime in October. When I have a clearer idea of what availability looks like, I will post it up.

Testing for the Any Game format can be tough. There's lots of reasons why a particular game might not make it into the list.

I think I have a new reason: Valid game, but it sucks. In other words: yeah, I could include it in the list, it's perfectly functional, but the game just isn't fun to watch or to play.

Case in point: Battle Sport (PSX)

The game works perfectly fine. You pilot an anti-grav vehicle. You can shoot and destroy your opponent. To score a point, you must chase down a ball that bounces all over the arena and shoot it into a goal - which might be moving, or in the air, or spins. Even in testing, I'm thinking "this is awful. Not like fun-awful. Or troll-game awful. It just plain sucks."

A couple of small changes to the fight sticks.

Replaced the Start button with a much more visible Red button

The spring on the lever has been firmed up a bit. (1lb spring > 2lb spring). It's more deliberate now. If you jump, it's because you meant it.
