It didn't make headlines, but composer Dan Forden has left Netherrealm Studios. Dan is most well-known for his work on MK, but also did sound and music for pinball tables, a couple of wrestling games, and even a racing game. I made a playlist of my faves across his career to celebrate. Toasty!

There's a lot of talk about how expensive gaming is getting: and it is.

Here's something you can actually do about it. How much power draw does your setup pull? When I play today's most demanding PC games full tilt, I can pull ~650w from the wall.

Where I live, that's about $3.70 / hour.

Power efficiency is one way you can reduce the cost of gaming. Set framerate limits if you can. Maybe dial down the ray tracing or shadow detail a notch or three. You probably won't notice.

Hey all! I have some notes for Q4, and there's a bit to go over, so bear with me.

October
-----------
My work schedule will be changing soon-ish, which means event days will also be changing. I am in a holding pattern on booking until I have a clearer picture late in the month. Announcements could be made with shorter notice than I prefer.

Planned events to watch for:
* MKX (Uncle George's Pick) / Mystery Fighting Game @ Hideaway as per usual
* Retro Game Swap Meet @ Whirling Tiger
* A possible third venue

November / December
---------------------------
The end of the year is busy for everyone, so we are going to be a bit lighter on events in these two months. This is the time we will be prepping for the Tournament of Champions in January, and we will make those announcements late in the year as well.

Planned events
* If yet to be announced venue event doesn't happen in October, then we will try for November.
* People's Choice @ Hideaway will be in one of these two months
* Jimmy's Birthday is in December
* Mystery Retro Game...maybe. I have my doubts, but it's possible.

New Year 2026!
--------------------
The change in schedule means daytime events will be back on the menu. Consequently, out-of-town events like Evansville, Lexington or wherever else we feel like hauling our setup is also a likelihood.

Btw, the Mystery Fighting Game list still has 80 or so titles left to get through before we reset the list and start over. 2026 will be the fourth year on the same list of non-repeating games.

Who else watched this cheesy mess? I can still hear Mega Man's smoker's cough of a voice.
Captain N overshadowed Video Power, a cartoon that featured the cop in NARC, the knight from Wizards & Warriors, and Bigfoot the monster truck - for some reason.

The Mystery Fighting Game list contains over 300 titles. It got me thinking, which years released the most fighting games? Though our list is as big as it is, it's still not comprehensive. However, the trending is pretty clear.

In the #1 spot: 1995 with 36 games
Runner up: 1996 with 30 games
Third place: 1994 with 25 games

When the arcade era came to a close, fighting game releases slowed down by a LOT, then picked up a little bit toward the end of the 2010s.

If you want to see how our list breaks down by release year, here's the full count.

1989 1
1990 2
1991 1
1992 11
1993 15
1994 25
1995 36

I appreciate everyone who came out to the Retro Game Swap Meet tonight! I know I had a great time meeting you.

If this momentum carries, my intention is to make it an every other month event. The next date will be sometime in October. When I have a clearer idea of what availability looks like, I will post it up.
