MAN CHARGED WITH CAPITAL MURDER AFTER 5-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN HARRIS COUNTY SHOOTING

Authorities say 47-year-old Jeremy Porter has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 5-year-old Zah’layah Walter.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Grant Road near Jones Road in northwest Harris County, Texas. Investigators say someone fired into a vehicle carrying Monica Hicks and her five children. Zah’layah was flown to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Two other children suffered injuries from broken glass.

Investigators initially described the shooting as apparent road rage, but Hicks disputes that account, saying she neither cut anyone off nor exchanged words with another driver.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced Porter’s arrest Sunday night. Authorities credited automated license plate readers with helping investigators identify the suspect. Source: ABC13⁠

15-YEAR-OLD KILLED, SECOND TEEN INJURED IN NYC TRUCK COLLISION

Police have identified 15-year-old Daria Serkov as the girl killed in a crash involving a commercial truck and a Citi Bike in Manhattan’s East Village Friday night.

According to police, the truck was traveling west on East 14th Street around 9 p.m. when its driver attempted a right turn onto First Avenue and struck the teens. Investigators believe both girls may have been riding the same bike.

Both were transported to Bellevue Hospital, where Serkov was pronounced dead. The other girl, 16, remains hospitalized and was last listed in stable condition.

The truck’s 57-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The cause remains under investigation; ABC7’s report does not announce any charges.

🚨 UPDATE: DRIVER ACCUSED OF TRADING CHICKEN LOAD TO SETTLE DRUG DEBT

New details in the Memphis chicken-theft case: Truck driver Robert Wilson allegedly offered the shipment to pay off a drug debt, according to a police affidavit cited by FreightWaves.

Officers serving an unrelated warrant discovered people unloading the trailer behind the Economy Inn on Lamar Avenue on September 15. The Koch Foods shipment was headed from Mississippi to New Jersey. Armada Freight says Wilson had no permission to distribute the cargo and terminated his contracting relationship.

Updated figures: Memphis police confirmed the shipment was worth $110,000, differing from the $250,000 initially reported by the U.S. Marshals Service. MPD named 12 defendants; federal authorities reported 13 arrests. That discrepancy remains unresolved.

Wilson faces theft and evading-arrest charges. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
