I went on a little book binge when preparing for this section. I tend to read 2 books at a time, alternating between authors and tone.

This latest book, Microbia by feels extremely fitting for this journey Will and I have been on for the past several years.

Her passion for knowledge is familiar and that same excitement she shares in her book is where I’m at in life. I feel a kinship to a woman I’ve never known but at the same time a part of me does. Bone returns to school in her 50s to discover more about the incredible world of fungi and microbes.

This echos in my own life. At 29 I changed majors from a BSN to a BSc in soil science. Of course I basically had to start over but Soil and the life of microbes excited a part of me that florescent bulbs, scratchy scrubs and the smell of an ER never did.

What drew me to this field was the intricate relationships within soil and how these relationships are going to quite literally save our world. Microbia explores these concepts and takes us along for Bone’s own journey.

I love this book and if you are someone who is passionate about learning, who is fascinated by the intricate details of life on earth then this book is for you.

To the Mayan and Aztec people, psilocybin was know as Teonanácatl, or “flesh of the gods.”

Aztec, Mayan, and Toltec religious history tell of these particular mushrooms, and that they were given to their ancestors by Quetzalcoatl the serpent god who was the creator of all life.

Highly coveted psilocybin mushrooms were consumed with honey and chocolate. The ritual or act of consuming mushrooms is known as monanacahuia, meaning to "mushroom oneself".

About 40,000 years ago man experienced an explosion of consciousness. Brain size doubled, art began, the use of tools increased, language and culture developed. Rock drawings such as this began popping up all over Africa and followed migration patterns of early man. Could magic mushrooms be the catalyst for the creation of modern man?
