While Dolly became one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, Carl chose a quiet life, staying far from the spotlight. Their love story began in 1964 outside a Nashville laundromat, where a simple hello turned into a lifelong bond.

They married in a small church in Ringgold, Georgia, with only a few witnesses — Dolly’s mother, the pastor, and his wife. It was a humble beginning to a marriage that would last nearly 60 years.

Dolly often said Carl was the one man in her life, the one she wanted to grow old with — a love built on loyalty, simplicity, and deep devotion.

Carl Dean passed away on March 3, 2025, at age 82. In his honor, Dolly released *If You Hadn’t Been There*, a heartfelt tribute to their enduring love.
