Still playing with these metallics since they were already conditioned. I swear, I have a drawer full of texture rollers and plates but I tend to gravitate to the same few. This is one of them. I love taking the same handful of colors and making coordinating patterns. I use the same texture plate twice once impressing the black side, the second flipping the sheet over and impressing the side with colors. I took the off cuts of each piece and on one I put it on a green background and on the other side, I put it on black so now I have four pieces total.

I had some bits and pieces of patterns and skinner blends that I wanted try the technique of my last reel with. I like it, but think a different pattern may be more effective. Maybe stripes or Bargello? Good thing I have tons of veneers to experiment with 🤪 what do you think? What should I try?

I took the remaining extruded clay and cut out colors from my last project and made them into a sheet. Over that I placed a super thin sheet of gold and black clay sheeted together. After making my pattern in the clay and shaving it I cut angled strips and swirled them. Note to self: make a longer sheet and cut longer strips for the swirl.

Mica shift is the COOLEST technique! Have you guy tried it? This is a bit different from the regular process, here I’ve extruded metallic clay and made squares by going back and forth or up and down with the ropes. When you shave off the tops you see the colors inside the ropes. BUT, the coolest thing about mica shift is that patterns remain in the clay giving the illusion of depth, even when completely flat. Look at the picture of the finished sheet, I have run that through the pasta machine and the surface is completely SMOOTH! A fun little optical illusion!!🤩🤯 The metalic clays are all by I’m obsessed with the values they have in metallics.
