The Reavis Homestead of the early 1900's.

I hiked this 5mi, 720ft elevation gain up thru very over-grown trail that is now just shy of a "bushwack" hike. It's been on my list of places to explore for over a year.

The history of this homestead is inspriing and sad at the same time. The Reavis Family moved to the Ozark area in the early 1900's and used an existing homestead until they built this one. The 2nd owner added the lean-to additions later as I have discovered. Sadly due to the US "Buffalo National River" land-grab in the late 20th century, these folks were forced to vacate their homestead. It was later used by the government for a staging area during caving surveys.

I have included a sketch of the site, a photo of "Pappy John Reavis" with his cousins going out for a hunt, and a photo of the cabin I found online from 2017. As you can see, it's clearly being overtaken by nature and in need of some restoration.

I am VERY proud to say I never saw or encountered a single snake in my hike which is shocking considering most of the brush and "hitch-hicker" plants are up to your waste! Lots of brush to walk thru so a winter hike would be recommended. And plan on long climbs. Roughly 2.5 miles of this hike is uphill.

Back in the Jeep & Ozarks! Needed some time in the forest so hit a hiking trail, watched elk in the fog, and met up with some friends for a quick overnight camp in the Ozarks.

I’ve explored Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona. All of which are special but will never take the place of the Ozarks as ā€œhomeā€.

Was nice to use the rooftop tent again for a change. After 3yrs, the 23 ZERO USA Kabari is still like new, a great tent, and I feel like we will keep it for many years. You can cut costs, but you shouldn’t sacrifice on quality. Very happy with our investment over other brands I’ve seen. šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘
