We would like to address the concerns some have come to us with due to the recent situation that has become news.

On Friday, Jan. 2, UMass Lowell was alerted to a post made on the personal Bluesky account of a volunteer DJ of one of our shows that played once a week on our station. His personal bluesky post suggested violence directed toward the vice president of the United States. The WUML station was not made aware of this post until much later. The individual had actually resigned from the station before the university was notified, and we were not informed as to why he was resigning.

UMass Lowell police promptly coordinated with the FBI, Secret Service and Haverhill police the same day to ensure an appropriate response. Contact was made with the individual in question, and the necessary assessments were conducted in collaboration with federal partners. Authorities confirmed there was no immediate threat.

The statements made within the personal post written by the individual are inconsistent with the values of the university and the WUML station. As a result, his access to the station as a whole was revoked immediately once we found out about the situation, and he is no longer affiliated with WUML in any way.
