✈️ Believe it or not, this is what our chief engineer Mark Donahue calls "traveling light." A decade ago, he'd bring 2000 lbs of gear; now it's under 500.

Last week, our recording engineer Anastasia Lukina stepped into new territory—recording in Dolby Atmos for the first time!

She joined producer Blanton Alspaugh in Florida to capture the ethereal voices of the Sisters of St. Thomas Aquinas singing hauntingly beautiful Gregorian chants.

Anastasia began her classical music journey as a violist at the Moscow Conservatory, later earning a Master’s in recording engineering from the Russian Music Academy. Before joining Soundmirror, she brought her expertise to institutions like BR - Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and the Aspen Music Festival. We’re so proud to have her on our team.

This recording session was something truly special—centuries-old sacred music, sung with breathtaking clarity, captured in a space of deep peace and resonance.

Throwback to that time Mark and Blanton recorded The Nutcracker and the Mouse King with the one and only Alan Cu***ng. 🎙

The recording was split into two parts: first a session in Glasgow with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by John Mauceri, the second a voiceover session with Alan in New York City at Kilgore Studios.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King goes beyond the Tchaikovsky ballet, asking who is the Nutcracker, and what really happens after Act Two?

It's always a good time when folks from the Denver choral group Kantorei are in the studio!

Producer Blanton and chief engineer Mark spent a few days mixing the group's new recordings of Sarah Quartel's Winters' Day, and Randall Thompson's Frostiana this week, with artistic director Joel Rinsema and soprano & collaborative pianist Alicia Rigsby.

It's a pleasure working with such talented people. Thanks for making the trip to Lowell, Kantorei!

Our chief engineer, Mark, had an incredible time recording the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Giants in the Earth earlier this year.

Now in the skilled hands of producer Nathaniel Reichman and conductor Delta David Gier, the recording is being mixed for release in 2026. We can't wait to share it with you!

Awake, Arise!

Another sneak preview of the forthcoming All is Miracle album produced by Blanton and mastered by Mark, featuring the music of composer Kyle Pederson and performed by the choral ensemble Transept under the direction of Tim Campbell.

The album will be released July 25 on Navona Records.
