From humble beginnings, Michelle became the first in her family to graduate high school and college, earning her Bachelor’s and later a Master’s in ESL. She’s certified to teach every grade, and she’s found her calling helping students thrive through language.
But Michelle’s greatest achievements aren’t just in the classroom. She’s a devoted wife and proud mom of two daughters, balancing her passion for education with deep love for her family.
Michelle is more than a teacher—she’s a mentor, advocate, and role model who embodies the strength and spirit of the Hispanic community. Her story is proof that perseverance and heart can transform lives.

Magic 106.5 & Mercedes-Benz of Lubbock would like to Congratulate Carlos Bentancourt for being nominated and selected as an Everyday Hispanic Hero!

Meet Carlos—a father, grandfather, musician, and lifelong servant of the Slaton community. Born, raised, and educated in Slaton, Texas, Carlos has spent all 57 years of his life giving back to the town that shaped him.
At just 21, he was elected to the Slaton ISD Board of Trustees. Now in his 31st year—and currently serving as President—Carlos continues to advocate for every child in Slaton ISD and beyond. As a TASB Board Director for Region 17, he represents over 1,200 school districts across Texas with heart and humility.
His faith is his foundation. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Carlos serves as Choir Director and has played guitar in music ministry since age 13—when his dad first invited him to join the family at Mass. 🎸🙏
Carlos reminds young Hispanics: “Never forget where you came from. The blood, sweat, and tears of our ancestors paved the way for your opportunities.” His motivation in tough times? Prayer. And a simple hope: “That He did it for me.”
He’s a man who enjoys a good carne guisada with a homemade tortilla (his mom was the best cook ❤️), and if there’s a song that captures his spirit, it’s El Rey by Vicente Fernández—because Carlos leads with dignity, love, and a servant’s heart.
Thank you, Carlos, for being a true everyday Hispanic Hero. Your legacy lives in every diploma handed out, every child uplifted, and every note played in service of others. 🎓🎶🙏
