Today, West Texas lost one of its true Legends.
Jim Stewart’s life was a story that could never be fully told in a single post. He served his country, served our community as a police officer, spent time protecting celebrities like Elvis Presley when they came through Lubbock, interviewed Presidents, championed agriculture, and became one of the most recognizable and trusted voices in West Texas radio.
But if you knew Jim, you know his greatest legacy wasn't the famous people he met or the stories he could tell. It was the people he cared about.
Whether it was supporting the Texas Boys Ranch, advocating for our farming and ranching community, mentoring others in broadcasting, or simply taking time to encourage a friend, Jim never forgot what mattered most: the people.
For decades, listeners welcomed Jim into their homes, pickups, tractors, and workplaces. His voice became part of the fabric of West Texas. His wisdom, humor, kindness, and unwavering love for this community will be missed more than words can express.
We are grateful for the time we had with him, the stories he shared, and the example he set.
Rest easy, Jim. Thank you for leaving West Texas better than you found it.
