Andy Billman has two Emmys and a Peabody, and he still couldn't get people interested in this film. No household name. Almost no archive footage. A market that keeps asking where LeBron is. He made it anyway, over four years, because the story was a family trying to get their father into the Hall of Fame. His line to his students: you have to tell a story and you have to sell yourself.

Dick Allen died in December 2020. Baseball finally opened the doors four years later.

Andy Billman spent those exact four years inside that gap. Two Emmys, ESPN's 30 for 30, and he found the whole film in a forgotten 40-minute audio tape nobody had bothered to search for.
