Former Lubbock County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jason Corley filed a lawsuit Monday against his replacement, Mark Meurer of Slaton. Corley was removed from the seat after announcing his Congressional campaign. The basis of his lawsuit comes from a disagreement between Corley and Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish over when his bid for the national office became official.

A hearing is now scheduled to determine if Meurer can serve as the commissioner until a final decision is made.

The City of Lubbock and the nonprofit Lubbock Downtown Park Conservancy have broken ground on the Downtown Lubbock park, newly-announced as “Pickering Park.” The project was approved by Lubbock’s city council in 2021. It is privately owned and operated by its dedicated nonprofit. It has been anticipated as a way to revitalize the downtown area.

Along with the park, this week has seen a number of new developments downtown, like new shopping with the Broadway Market and new apartments in the renovating Jim Kimmel Center.

Officials say a community gathering place like Pickering Park can provide a focus on the variety of development projects coming to downtown Lubbock.

Giordano’s passionate tragedy stars tenor Piotr Beczała as the virtuous poet who falls victim to the intrigue and violence of the French Revolution. Following their celebrated recent partnership in Giordano’s Fedora, Beczała reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Chénier’s aristocratic lover, Maddalena di Coigny, with baritone Igor Golovatenko as Carlo Gérard, the agent of the Reign of Terror who seals their fates. Daniele Rustioni takes the podium to lead Nicolas Joël’s gripping staging.

We Are Public Media

Texas Tech Public Media is proud to serve as the PBS and NPR stations for Lubbock, Texas and the surrounding area. As a nonprofit media organization, our goal is to be a town square - dedicated to sharing the diverse voices of the City of Lubbock and Texas Tech University, while remaining objective in all of our reporting.

We must stay true to those ideas to keep the trust of our communities. It is our duty to shine a light on structural inequities that exist in our society, and to tell the stories of those who for too long have not been given a platform.
