LU Chess We are a Liberty University club, dedicated to glorifying God through the time honored game of chess. Membership will require the following qualifications:

Purpose and Goals Section
The purpose and goal of LU Chess will be to promote and pass on the traditions and heritage of chess, to the Liberty University student body. LU Chess will cultivate a positive culture of Christ-centered mentorship among students, in a spirit of competition and service. LU Chess will hold weekly chess meets, monthly

tournaments and semester events and service projects. Such endeavors will revolve around a Christ-centered creed to guide LU Chess as it prepares Liberty University students for Christian leadership. Insert Latin Phrase
Membership Requirements Section
Students and faculty of Liberty University are welcome to join LU Chess. Understanding of the terminology, history and purpose of chess
II. Understanding of and agreement with LU Chess’s Creed
III. Understanding of and adherence to the Liberty Way
Members will be divided into active and in active members. Active membership will consist of the following:
Responsibilities
I. Attendance of at least one LU Chess club event per month
II. Payment of club dues, when require by LU Chess policy
III. Attendance of one LU Chess semester event
Privileges
I. Participation in LU Chess elections
II. Eligibility for participate in club tournaments
III. Eligibility to apply for a leadership position
LU Chess members understand that all breaches of the membership qualifications are grounds for expulsion by a club major vote and with one executive officer’s recommendation. Organization
LU Chess is a student club, under the directorship of the student government association and faculty advisor Nathan Putney. Committees
LU Chess executive officers and members will possess the right to establish committees, with the permission of LU Chess leadership. These committees will be for the express purpose of addressing specific sub-goals of LU Chess’s semester agenda and mission. Committees will be subject to the oversight of one executive officer, with one committee member serving as chair. Fiscal and Administrative Terms Section
A fiscal and administrative term will consist of one Liberty University semester. At the end of a semester, LU Chess will hold elections for the executive officers of the following semester. Authority will transfer to the succeeding officers on the first school day of the relevant semester. A report of the fiscal term will be made available to the leadership and club for review. LU Chess Hierarchy and Leadership Responsibilities
Faculty Advisor: Faculty representative of LU Chess, advisor and mentor to the club president (Non-electable)
President: Serves as the figurehead and administrative leader of LU Chess. Duties will include but not be limited to overseeing chess meets, arranging and directing leadership meetings, directing club officers in their duties, coordination with sponsor, liaison to Student Government club director, management of one club committee (Non-electable, filled by prior vice president)
Vice President: Completion of delegated oversite and tasks, filling vacancy in overseeing meet and meetings, appointment (with approval of executive officers) of committee heads, management of one club committee (Electable)
Secretary: Recording and publishing of all club meeting notes and attendance, weekly club emails and announcements, securing space for club meets and meetings, oversight of one committee (Electable)
Quartermaster/Treasurer: Management of club financial and material resources, preparation of meet rooms, fiscal record keeping, oversight of one committee (Electable)





LU Chess Meetings and Events
LU Chess Meets: Weekly chess matches and informational gatherings
LU Chess Tournaments: Biannual in-club tournaments
LU Chess Semester Activities: Special events planned by leadership for both in-club and LU outreach and goodwill
LU Elections: Held at the end of the semester and overseen by the executive officers
Note: All LU Chess events and meetings will begin with a prayer by one of the executive officers. Amending and Impeachments
This constitution shall be amendable by a two-thirds majority vote by all active members of LU Chess, with one executive officer’s approval of the proposed change. Alternatively, through a unanimous vote by the executive officers, with the faculty advisor’s approval. Executive officers will be impeachable with a two-thirds majority vote of all active members with one executive officers’ approval. Additionally, through a unanimous vote by the executive officers, with the faculty advisor’s approval.
