“My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
Psalm 63:5-8 ESV
It’s the third week of advent, which means the theme this week is joy. If I’m honest I’ve been struggling to focus on joy this week. With the loss of strength that has come with this relapse back in to sickness, it’s hard not focus on the fear of what’s next and the grief of missing out on holiday celebrations that I’d been looking forward.
But I found this passage from today’s advent guide really encouraging and challenging. Advent is the season of celebrating the incarnation of God, Immanuel, God with us. What more should I need to experience joy than to rest in his hands?
