I was raised by a '90s mom, so that means Kool-Aid was around all the time! Especially the red flavor! I also loved some Kool-Aid bursts as a kid. When I saw this story tonight, I knew it was going into the show! I also had to hold Will Stafford accountable and ask how he makes his Kool-Aid. Spoiler alert: he does it WRONG.

I’m dog sitting for my amazing, former high school principal this week, and it’s like living in Snow White’s house! On top of watching her amazing pup Jack, I’m also taking care of her favorite forest creatures like this sweet doe! I sat on her front porch for a solid 10 minutes and she just walked by and ate some bread I fed her.

Saying a prayer for the Brookville-Timberlake Fire community and Chief Womack’s family. Thank you for your service and commitment to our area.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Former Chief Jerry Womack.

Jerry faithfully served our department for 33 years, including 14 years and 8 months as Fire Chief. Throughout his career, he dedicated countless hours to the fire service, helping teach Firefighter classes to students from departments across the county. His passion for mentoring others and strengthening the fire service left a lasting impact on countless firefighters.

I don’t even know where to begin, besides saying, Queenie Noreenie. For the last almost five years, I’ve had the honor to work with Noreen Turyn. For about three and half to four years, I’ve been her nightside producer and reporter. I cannot imagine WSET without Noreen and all of the laughs we’ve had and all of the amazing lessons she’s taught me. I grew up watching Noreen as a local to Lynchburg and in college, even got to read about how her stories impacted this area. Then in 2021, I got I see firsthand the amazingness of Noreen. From watching her report stories to her leadership in the newsroom, Noreen, to me, is what great journalism and storytelling look like. I’ve only been doing this for almost five years now, but the accomplishments I’ve made in this career so far are because of her and how she’s taken me and mentored me. Did she have to teach me the same lesson multiple times, absolutely. But at the end of the day, that’s what Noreen is passionate about. She’s passionate about helping this next generation of journalists get it right. There were many times at night I felt like I wasn’t doing enough or felt like I wasn’t contributing. Then, one night, Noreen called me for breaking news and I rushed into action driving from Amherst to Altavista and sprinting into a live shot right as we’re going on air with the information I learned on the way there. After that, Noreen told me so many times that she had faith in me and believed in me. She also told me how she knew if I was on the story, it would get done. To hear those kinds of complements from a journalist like Noreen meant the world to me. It was my drive to keep going and pushing for the truth. Many nights after our 11pm show, I watched Noreen sit tirelessly behind her desk working on investigative pieces and listening to interviews making sure she told the story accurately and fairly. Even though Noreen is retiring, you better believe I’ll be sending her some scripts for her to check because I’ll definitely need it. To an absolute legend, Noreen, thank you for what you’ve done for me and all of us in the newsroom, thank you for what you’ve done in this community and thank you for being the example of true journalism. Happy retirement, and I’m so proud of you!

It’s quite hazy out there today due to those Canada Wildfires. The DEQ says our area’s air is unhealthy for sensitive groups like those who have lung and heart issues, older adults and young children. The VDH says do your best to stay inside if possible. I’ll have more tonight at 5 and 6!
