Bookended the day in nature today. This morning I went blueberry picking with my dear friend Joni Marra and tonight I walked by the water when my furry friend popped his head up to say hi! I love days like this even if it was incredibly hot!

It took 37 years for us all to be in the same place again. Usually I am the one who misses everything but what an absolute blessing it was to be together this weekend for my Uncle Dan’s celebration of life. My first cousins and siblings are the best and to laugh and cry together this weekend was absolutely worth the trip to North Carolina and then some. I wouldn’t have traded our time together for anything. Love this bunch! ❤️

My Uncle Dan! He was such a special part of my childhood! He would sing American Pie to me as a baby to get me to stop crying. He let me cover myself in smiley face bandaids when my mom was at work and he and my dad were “watching” me. He taught me lots of mischief back then.

Uncle Dan vowed to beat up the car that splashed mud all over my new sundress at my fifth birthday party. He was a hero that day! I remember crying so hard.

He was there a lot after my dad died (I was ten) too. I had my first drink at his house (when I was fifteen) so I was in a safe space when I tried it. He gave me driving lessons and I want to say he took me to get my driver’s license.

He always had a smile and a song for his little Badoo - I can’t remember how that nickname for me came to be but that is what he always called me. He was so special and so much fun. I imagine he is cracking a cold one with my dad and looking down on us all with a smile and that perpetual twinkle in his eye. Rest in peace Uncle Dan! Love you! ❤️❤️❤️

Last Thursday was a great day. I spent the day at the Women’s Global Health Summit hosted by Maria Shriver and Cleveland Clinic’s Women’s Health and Research Department with 1000 other women. It was educational and I was offered the opportunity to meet some of the top minds across a variety of fields. I went home feeling great and full of ideas for the future.

Last Friday at 4am I woke sicker than I have been in a while. Since then I have been to the ER twice and had an emergency eye doctor appt. I have developed a variety of “itis” maladies like gastritis, esophagitis, iritis, my arthritis is flaring and now I also have laryngitis. If I didn’t feel so crappy it would be comical.

I got to experience a new hospital system in Cleveland and the differences between the two are surprising. It has been an excellent experience for the most part with UH and I haven’t had doctors listen to me in a long time. Their responsiveness to what is actually happening has been phenomenal. Two ER docs who knew exactly what MCAS was and how to treat the flare. The eye doc who referred me to Rheumatology because the inflammation in my eye was clearly autoimmune. I didn’t have to fight or cry or defend myself. They just knew and acted accordingly.

Trying to recover and rest. This is certainly been a very stressful few months. I thought after Grandma Tess’s passing, life would be easier but the three jobs I have are still as demanding as ever. Feeling hopelessly behind in all three only adds to the stress on my body but today I’m resting.

Here’s to turning a corner to better health and work/life balance. Thank you to the Doctors I work for who have supported me this month in ways I didn’t know I needed. Shout out to friends and family who have been there when I needed it. I’m very grateful for all of the unexpected blessings that have popped up this week. Thank you! ❤️
