Education reform: NEK Lawmaker Backs Improved H.955 After Key Changes

MONTPELIER — The Vermont House has approved a major education reform bill, House Bill 955 (H.955), advancing a proposal that could reshape how schools are funded and structured across the state—with significant implications for rural regions like the Northeast Kingdom.

Northeast Kingdom Representative Beth Quimby says she shifted from a “no” to a “yes” after key changes, underscoring how much is at stake for communities that rely heavily on school choice.

As lawmakers, including Emilie Kornheiser, point to cost stabilization efforts, Speaker Jill Krowinski says there is still a long way to go as the bill heads to the Senate.
