Join in on the conversation between Davis Zhen & I as we talk about his journey on how he became a Deputy Director for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)

One of our favorite moments in this particular episode was when Davis shared his “nuclear disaster” experience in 2011 when the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster occurred - a 9.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Japan that was so forceful it shifted the Earth off its axis. The earthquake then triggered a 15-metre tsunami that killed more than 18,000 people & flooded the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant - causing a MAJOR nuclear disaster 😦

On tomorrow’s podcast, we have Davis Zhen on board to speak with us!

Davis currently works within the EPA (which is the United States Environmental Protection Agency) as a Deputy Director, where he manages the Air & Radiation Division, as well as Land & Chemicals. He manages Region 10 that covers the whole Pacific Northwest… specifically including Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and other 271 tribal nations.

Before becoming a Deputy Director, he got a degree in Chemical Engineering with a specific focus on nuclear chemistry. After graduating from UW, he worked for the USEPA almost immediately as a Radiation Program Specialist & then later became a Land Supervisor for managing sites that are incredibly hazardous to our community (Superfund Sites.)

On tomorrow’s upcoming episode, we have Elizar Mercado on deck to speak with us 😁

Elizar is a Multimedia Content Specialist for the School of Public Health for the University of Washington 🏫

He has been in this position for five years & during that time, he has been literally the jack of all trades when it comes to creating multimedia content for the School of Public Health! Specifically, he has experience of doing web / graphic design, photography/videography, print… and MUCH more for the school. 📸 🎥 🖼️ 📠

At the moment, however, he now has more of a dominant role of project management for the multimedia team. He sees himself as a “visual designer” more than anything, but even that doesn’t illustrate all of what Elizar does!

He is very is passionate about his work & absolutely loves his job that enables him to be as creative as he can.

Jimmy is a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for Microsoft… and we already know what you’re thinking… WHAT IS THAT?! 🧐 🧐

Well that is why we wanted Jimmy to join our show to educate us on how this unique engineering job contributes to our everyday lives.

Starting from a program called “Year-Up” after high school to joining internships within Microsoft… it is a unique journey indeed that Jimmy has gone through to becoming a SRE.

She works within the Pathology lab at Harborview Medical Center. Although she primarily deals with HPV samples, she is a jack of all trades in terms of her responsibilities.

Melvin is born & raised in Seattle, WA. He obtained his Bachelors of Nursing Degree from the University of Washington & has been a nurse for nearly five years now.

He is also happily married to his wife Daisy & they have a fluffy daughter named Marshmallow.

With too many hobbies to list... in particular Melvin has a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & also loves to golf, hike, weight-lift, eat & have a fun time with his loved ones.

Welcome to my new exciting podcast project, "Talk&Tell with Mel"

“Talk&Tell with Mel” is a story-telling/educational podcast where the idea stemmed from a curious question that often came up in small-talk conversation: "Remind me, what's your job again?”

This topic has always fascinated me because I’ve always been curious what other individuals do for a living compared to what I do! I love hearing about the journey to how they landed their job & any accomplishments/hardships they’ve experienced.

That’s exactly what I get to explore with a special guest each & every single week. I'm sure my listeners will also be eager to hear what their journey was like as well!
