Hello East Macclenny! How are you tolerating the heat wave? We’ve just been hibernating indoors with the air conditioner and the ceiling fans going nonstop.

About a week ago I was outside with my husband and he was backing the trailer into the fenced yard. As I was standing around waiting for him to find the perfect spot I was getting bug bites on my legs. At the time I thought they were mosquitos and then I spotted the little rascal. A yellow fly! I don’t know how many times I got bitten but by that night those bites were hurting and itching. The next morning when I woke up they were swollen, hurting, and itching. I tried what I had in the cabinet which was Benadryl cream, which expired in 2024 😂, and it didn’t help. By that afternoon those places were so swollen that it hurt to walk. Finally I went to the pharmacy and bought calamine lotion and liquid Benadryl. I was already feeling better the next morning and gradually every day the swelling went down and the pain went away. Wish I had taken Benadryl sooner because it made all the difference. My advice is that if you get a yellow fly bite take the Benadryl right away.

Oh and by the way, I’ve read that if you get a rattlesnake bite that you should take Benadryl immediately and go straight to the hospital. I’m keeping a bottle of Benadryl on hand from now on! Every bug on earth loves me so I’m prepared for whatever comes my way!

Good morning East Macclenny! I hope you had a happy and safe 4th of July weekend! 🇺🇸 Our dog was not impressed with all the fireworks but he tolerated it better than in the past. He’s older and his hearing isn’t what it used to be.

Since I last posted here my husband and I had Covid for three weeks. The week before I had just said “You don’t hear of anyone getting Covid these days.” What was I thinking?!? 😂 Never say never.

During that time we were both so sick and fatigued that everything was pushed to the side. Our w**ds in the yard grew to about knee deep. My gift to my husband for Father’s Day was to pay someone to have the yard work done. He couldn’t give away our mower quickly enough! Needless to say we are both enjoying his Fathers Day gift!

I hope you are having a good summer! School will be starting again very soon. Slow down and watch out for the kids! 🚌

Anyone else besides me ready for spring weather? I had a sore throat last week and now my husband has it but he sounds much worse than I did. I believe it’s the pollen making us sick. I had intentions of cutting back our crepe myrtles this month but it hasn’t happened yet. Let me know if you have advice on trimming methods. I don’t want to be labeled a “crepe murderer!” 😂

How’s everyone doing with the cold weather? We are pretty much staying indoors unless we absolutely have to leave. I’ve been making a lot of soups, gumbo, etc. I’ve also been ordering groceries from Kroger delivery. Sorry Kroger employees but I’m seriously so thankful for you! Every morning when my husband walks our dog he wears two jackets and of course our dog takes his time doing his business. Anyway just wanted to check in with all of our neighbors and see how yall are handling these low temps. Stay warm! 🥶

Good morning neighbors! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. With New Years coming up I want to wish you all a prosperous 2025! 🎉

One of the reasons I started this page was to connect us to our neighbors. Since moving to this side of Macclenny we’ve met so many people on our street who have lived here for many years and still don’t know the neighbors. Yesterday our neighbor across the street called my husband because there was a need on our street and they took care of it. A lady wanted some shrubs removed and my husband has a tractor so the guys went over and took care of it for her. She was so thankful and said she has wanted that done for years! If only we had taken the time to meet her and talk to her sooner! Wherever you are meet your neighbors and learn a little bit about them. Everyone deserves their privacy but it’s always good to be there for each other and check in on each other now and then, especially this time of the year.

Once again, so thankful that our area was spared during this latest hurricane. We didn’t even have a twig down, our power stayed on, we got very little rain, and the wind was a lot less than what we experienced during Helene. It sounds like our whole county was missed but if you do have anything that you need help with please let us know and we’ll see what we can do. Now we get to enjoy this beautiful weather and lower temps. Oh and by the way, did you hear that it’s supposed to get down to 44 the end of next week?!? Woohoo!

I’m a little late posting about the hurricane here but I think we did okay for a Cat 4. We had some big branches that fell in the back yard but nothing hit the house. We put it all by the road and it’s already been picked up. My cousin that lives in Ft White is in a hotel in Lake City because she still doesn’t have power. She thinks they will have power by the weekend. My aunt & uncle in Suwanee didn’t get so lucky. Their home is uninhabitable and already seeing mold. They’ll be living in a camper for the foreseeable future. It seems like from Tallahassee to Lake City got hit the hardest. Macclenny dodged a bullet.

Good morning! Hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather, if you can call it that! My sister and I have begun walking around our neighborhood for about 30 minutes every day early mornings. We’ve noticed that everything is staying pretty wet but people are still mowing their grass. My husband mowed a couple of days ago and we have tire tracks throughout the yard but it still has to be done. Seems like it’s feast or famine with the rain. So thankful that we haven’t had any more hurricanes lately. Hopefully we’re done with hurricanes this year!

Hello East Macclenny! Just a quick update on our latest project. We are being overtaken by w**ds everywhere so little by little we’re going to put down plastic or cardboard in our flower beds to try to keep them at bay. In the front bed we added white marble rocks. We had mulch there before but when it rained the mulch washed out across the sidewalk into the grass and onto the driveway so it’s out with the mulch and in with the heavier marble rocks. Shout out to our wonderful neighbor, Cliff, who brought over his w**d eater and took care of more
of our pesky w**ds. We haven’t been having much luck with w**d eaters and edgers lately. Aggravating little things they are!

Good morning neighbors! I hope everyone survived the storm with little to no damage. When I checked my weather app last night around 8 we had had 7 inches of rain since midnight so that tells me that through the whole storm we had much more than that because it registers from midnight to midnight. Here at our house we have two large branches down in the backyard so we’ll get the chainsaw out and take care of it. We were plenty nervous about the wind gusts and the large trees we have in the backyard. We know we need to take them out but it’s going to cost a fortune. A neighbor a couple houses down has a large tree laying across their roof. Hopefully everyone will pitch in and help each other with things like this. We’ll check on them this morning and see how we can help. Have a great day everyone! ☔️
