MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. — After more than three decades of helping students safely cross busy streets, longtime Macomb County crossing guard Frank Fourway announced this week that he will be retiring at the end of the school year. Fourway, who has become a familiar sight to generations of local families, said he is grateful for the opportunity and the countless relationships he has built over the years. "This was actually the first job I got after getting out of prison, and now it's going to be my last," Fourway said. "Not many employers were willing to hand me a stop sign and put me in charge of traffic, but Macomb County took a chance on me." Residents say Fourway has safely escorted thousands of students across the roadway while enduring snowstorms, heat waves, freezing rain, and motorists who somehow failed to notice a man wearing a reflective vest standing in the middle of the street. As news of his retirement spread, community members flooded social media with tributes. "You don't realize how important a Fourway is until it's gone," said longtime resident Karen Mitchell. "The community just won't be the same without him." Another resident added that "a good Fourway is hard to find these days," while one parent noted that "we've all depended on Fourway at one point or another." County officials say a replacement will be selected before the start of the next school year, though many residents remain skeptical that anyone can truly fill the reflective safety vest of a man some believed had been standing at the same intersection since the early 1990s. Fourway says he plans to spend his retirement relaxing, traveling, and enjoying the simple pleasure of crossing the street without having to tell everyone else when it's safe to do so.

METRO BEACH, Mich. — Visitors to Metro Beach were stunned Wednesday after discovering a vintage Big Boy restaurant statue washed ashore along the Lake St. Clair shoreline. The statue is believed to be the same one that gained attention earlier this winter when an ice fisherman spotted it drifting beneath the frozen lake, initially mistaking the massive figure for a giant fish. After spending months trapped under the ice, recent warm weather and the spring thaw appear to have freed the iconic mascot, allowing it to drift across Lake St. Clair before eventually washing up at Metro Beach. Beachgoers quickly gathered around the unusual sight, snapping photos and sharing them on social media, while park officials worked to verify the statue's identity and determine how far it had traveled. By late Wednesday afternoon, crews had removed the statue from the shoreline to prevent it from becoming a hazard to visitors or washing back into the lake. Officials have not released additional details regarding its origin or final destination.

A New Baltimore garbage man became an instant multi-millionaire overnight after selling a rare Michigan-shaped McDonald’s Chicken Nugget at auction for a staggering $2.4 million, making it the second-highest-selling chicken nugget ever sold at auction. The golden-brown nugget was discovered while he was eating a 20-piece order inside a local McDonald’s and nearly ended up as just another bite before he noticed its remarkable resemblance to Michigan's iconic mitten shape. “I almost ate the masterpiece,” the seller said. “One more bite and I would have swallowed $2.4 million.” Bidding opened at just $100 and quickly escalated as fast-food enthusiasts and collectors from across the country competed for ownership of the unusual item, with the winning bid ultimately coming from a wealthy Macomb County developer. The buyer plans to display the nugget in a custom climate-controlled case alongside other Michigan memorabilia, while auction organizers described the sale as one of the most unusual food-related transactions ever recorded. The seller said he plans to use part of the money to pay off his mortgage, purchase a new truck, and finally take the family vacation he has been putting off for years. “I never imagined a chicken nugget would change my life,” he said.

Sterling Heights Police Department has made history by hiring their first K9 Cat, a clever 9-pound orange tabby named Mittens McScratch, who recently completed specialized Feline Patrol training. Unlike traditional police dogs, Officer Mittens brings unique feline advantages to the job: she can silently sneak up on suspects, leap great distances, conduct surveillance from trees and high vantage points, deploy razor-sharp claws when needed, and easily slip into tight spaces under vehicles or into crawl spaces that no dog could reach. “She may not track on foot like a German Shepherd, but she’s hell on ladders, bookshelves, and hiding spots,” said Sgt. Mike Kowalski. “The criminals never expect the cat.” While some residents are calling it peak Sterling Heights innovation, Chief Ronald Barski defended the hire: “Dogs are loyal… cats are chaotic, and in this city chaos might be exactly what we need.” In just one month on the job, Officer Mittens has already gotten 300 pounds of catnip off the streets. The Sterling Heights Police Department says she’s puuuurrrfect for the job and officially welcomes her to the team.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — In one of the strangest incidents Macomb County has ever seen, a massive swarm of fish flies lifted a small Yorkie named Keith right out of a backyard in St. Clair Shores and carried the bewildered pup nearly two miles before dropping it safely in Harrison Township. Witnesses initially thought it was some type of drone until they looked closer and saw it was a small dog in the air, carried by hundreds of fish flies. Keith was barking at the thick cloud of bugs when the swarm suddenly engulfed him and took off like a living helicopter. St. Clair Shores resident Ray Wrobleski, who saw the whole thing, shook his head and said, “I might have been under the influence, but I saw what I saw.” The dog landed unharmed in a front yard off Crocker Boulevard, still wearing his little collar and looking more confused than anything. Local animal control has since reunited Keith with his owner, who called it a miracle. Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources say the unusually heavy fish fly hatch this season can create powerful swarms capable of surprising feats, but this is the first documented case of one airlifting a family pet. Residents are being advised to keep small dogs and cats indoors during peak swarm hours.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — A local man known around the Midwest as the biggest plug for bootleg Faygo is facing multiple charges after authorities busted what they’re calling a full-on black market beverage operation at his St. Clair Shores home this week, uncovering piles of fake Faygo Moon Mist and roughly $100,000 in cash. Neighbors said the place had turned into a late-night hub for underground soda drops, with coolers constantly moving in and out of the garage and folks coming and going at all hours, especially around Juggalo season. One neighbor shook her head and said, “I knew something wasn’t right at that house, but I just thought he was a prostitute—never imagined anything this bad.” Cops went from thinking it was just weird soda hoarding to launching a full investigation once they found handwritten price lists marked “Rare Pops / Do Not Ask,” and the guy’s claim that the cash came from “returning cans and being financially responsible” didn’t exactly convince anybody. Investigators say they’re happy to get this off the streets before the Gathering in August, and the case remains under review while folks across Macomb County scratch their heads over how one soda flavor turned into such a big underground hustle. Metro Beach officials this week unveiled the county's newest affordable housing solution, a 200-unit Tiki Hut Village where aspiring homeowners can finally achieve the American Dream for the bargain price of $875,000 plus a mandatory $1,200 monthly structural maintenance fee. The waterfront development, built entirely from bamboo, reclaimed boat dock materials, and optimism, is being marketed toward young families, retirees, and anyone who has been told by a realtor that a starter home now costs more than a yacht. Each hut features 180 square feet of living space, lake views partially obstructed by lifted pickup trucks, and access to a community fire pit where residents can gather nightly to discuss why nobody can afford housing anymore. County leaders praised the project as a major step forward, noting that the development will provide nearly two dozen affordable units reserved exclusively for households earning less than $450,000 annually. At press time, every tiki hut had already been purchased by investors and relisted online as "luxury waterfront estates" for $1.9 million.

LAKE ST. CLAIR, MI — Every year, Lake St. Clair unofficially kicks off Michigan's boating season with its legendary Boat Naming Contest, where local captains compete for bragging rights with the most outrageous, filthy, and downright unhinged boat names imaginable. Last year's champion, "St Clair Wh**es," dominated marinas, boat launches, and group chats across Macomb County, but 2026 has a new undisputed king. "Clit-N-Twatship," proudly representing Clinton Township, cruised to an easy victory after being spotted heading toward the lake behind a lifted black Tahoe on Hall Road. The sleek white-and-purple speedboat features massive hot-pink lettering across the transom that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. When asked about the inspiration behind the name, the captain reportedly replied, "It's a family boat... if your family is degenerate." Congratulations to Clit-N-Twatship, the new champion of Lake St. Clair. The only question now is what boat name could possibly top it in 2027.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Residents of a Sterling Heights retirement home are trading quiet bingo nights and early dinners for a wild day on the water as they prepare to attend Jobbie Nooner on Lake St. Clair later this month. The group of seniors, ages 68 to 89, has chartered boats for the popular annual booze cruise after growing tired of the usual field trips to museums, zoos, and casinos. “I’m going to see some real b***s out there, not like the ones sagging around here,” said 78-year-old Harold Thompson with a mischievous grin. “I want the ones that are still standing at attention.” Fellow resident Dorothy Miller, 74, added with a laugh, “I’m bringing all the beaded necklaces we made at craft time to give to our family, but I secretly made extras so I can throw them off the boat like the young kids do.” The seniors say they are signing waivers and fully understand the risks involved but are excited to finally experience the real Eastside on the water. Staff members are ensuring everyone has life jackets, sunscreen, and snacks while emphasizing responsible fun. “I’m going to lose my virginity again,” declared 82-year-old Peggy Wilson with a wink. “It’s been so long.” The much-anticipated Jobbie Nooner trip is already the talk of the local retirement community, with many calling it their most exciting outing in years.
