A sold-out Hank Williams, Jr. show at Atrium Health Amphitheater—an unforgettable 26th year of Bragg Jam in downtown Macon—and Grammy-winners Mumford and Sons right up the road in Atlanta can only mean two things:

We all need to rehydrate and take a nap! 🤣🤣🧃

But it was worth it, wasn’t it?! 😎🎶🎵

Happy Birthday to a real music legend: the one and only Newton Collier! 🎉🎂🎵🎺

“Newt” is an integral part of Macon’s historic music origin story. As a horn player for the iconic, Grammy-winning Soul duo Sam and Dave, Collier traveled the world, spreading that familiar “sound and soul” across continents far and wide, in addition to his work with the King of Soul, Otis Redding’s original backing band “The Pinetoppers.” His stories are wildly fantastical, his wit sharp as a tack—but it’s his heart for Macon, its music scene, and the community that built it and continues to keep it alive that we love the most.❤️

You’ll find Collier out and about downtown, greeting friends and strangers alike with a smile and a hug. So if you’re lucky enough to run into him today, be sure to wish him a “Happy Birthday!” 🤩
