Thank you for this opportunity
TAKEOVER - In honor of Juneteenth, we are profiling multiple leaders across Central Georgia who are tangibly making a difference in their communities. Harold J. Young is the Executive Director of the Tubman Museum and is our first profile.
QUESTION ONE: The Tubman Museum has one of the most comprehensive collections of artifacts from African American art, history, and culture. Which specific artifact is the most significant to you and why?
"First of all, I love the entire museum and seeing people from all walks of life coming to learn and be inspired by the vast African American art, history, and culture. I must say, the Tyler Perry Exhibit - it is personal to me because we have the only exhibit of his works in the country. When I see people leave, they feel inspired and motivated by the exhibit."
QUESTION TWO: How can people support the Tubman Museum?
"People can support the Tubman by visiting the museum, making a donation, or purchasing a membership which starts as low as $25 annually."
QUESTION THREE: What does Juneteenth mean to you?
"Juneteenth is a time of celebration for all - the day when 250,000 slaves in the state of Texas, which became the last bastion for slavery during the final days of the Civil War, were declared free by the U.S. Army. It means FREEDOM!!"
