Mercer Music at Capricorn's mission is to leverage Macon’s music heritage to create Macon’s music future. The nearly 20,000-square-foot complex features four main components:

Capricorn Sound Studios: State-of-the-art commercial studios encompassing the historic Studio A where bands such as the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels and others recorded in the heyday of Capricorn Records

, and a new, larger Studio B that is suitable for larger-scale recording, as well as concerts and special events. The studios are supported by a control room equipped with an analog, 40-channel API 2448 that was custom-built for Capricorn, as well as isolation booths and production suites. Capricorn Museum: Through digital, visual and audio storytelling, the interpretive component of Mercer Music at Capricorn informs and engages the Macon community and attracts visitors from around the world. At the heart of the 1,200-square-foot museum is an interactive listening station where visitors can sample the Capricorn Records catalog. The museum also features a retail store where fans can stock up on Capricorn-themed merchandise. Capricorn Music Incubator: Twelve rehearsal rooms over two floors that provide space for musicians to rehearse, collaborate and provide instruction. Rooms are rented at affordable rates by the day, month or year and are accessible 24/7. Offices, Co-Working Space and Meeting Rooms: Eight offices, three conference/seminar rooms and co-working space are available for rent by non-profit arts organizations, music-related businesses and creative professionals. On this day in 2009, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation added the old Capricorn Sound Studios to its 2010 Places in Peril list. Today, thanks to Mercer University, NewTown Macon, The Peyton Anderson Foundation, Knight Foundation and Sierra Development, along with generous support from more than 350 other donors, Capricorn Sound Studios is once again a thriving music center.

Outlaw country legend Billly Joe Shaver is being honored with a bronze statue of the former Capricorn artist in his hometown of Corsicana, Texas, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported. Shaver recorded two albums on the Capricorn Records label — "When I Get My Wings" and "Gypsy Boy."

The record "When I Get My Wings" features a who's who of Capricorn greats, including Bonnie Bramlett, Dickey Betts, Tommy Talton and Chuck Leavell. You can find the album in the digital record bin of the Capricorn Museum.

Larry Brumley's work at Capricorn is often behind the scenes, but it has not gone unnoticed. Last night, the Macon Arts Alliance presented him with a Cultural Award, which is given in recognition of the recipient's significant contribution to arts and culture in our community.

The presenters highlighted his work bringing Capricorn Sound Studios back to life and stewarding the on-air production of "A Night of Georgia Music." Brumley is senior vice president for marketing communications and chief of staff at Mercer University. Please join us in congratulating him!

Drawing from their hometown's extensive songbook, Macon Music R***e recorded its newly released, self-titled debut album at Capricorn Sound Studios. Included among the 10 cuts is "Out of Left Field," originally released in 1967 by Alabama singer Percy Sledge, who was managed at the time by Macon's Phil Walden Artists and Promotions. Gregg Allman also recorded "Out of Left Field (written by Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham) and included it on his final album, 2017's Southern Blood.
