My Story

On August 26, 2018, I, Gary L. Watkins, decided to start my independent Design & Media Production Business Page. I graduated from Central Georgia Technical College with a Diploma in Design & Media Productions. I learned how to use cameras, computer softwares, studios, and so on.

What I inspired me to start my own independent business was that I came to realize that how hard it is to get a job in what you went to college for. Research actually shows that most college students don’t get a job in what field of study they went to college for until 6 months, post graduation. Although this analysis varies, depending on your major, I feel going 6 months without making any money or pursuing your career is hard. Especially due to the fact that you’d have to relentlessly apply for jobs or settle for a job that you don’t see yourself at in the long term. I started at Central Georgia Technical in August of 2015 and for my first semester and a half of school, I was living off my refund checks I received at the end of Fall 2015. I got my first job in March of 2016 at a well-known and busy restaurant. I went to my classes in the mornings and afternoons and worked evenings and nights. Also my job at the time use to schedule me to work long weekends and it became frustrating.

A year later, approximately June 2017, I started another job at a grocery store that didn’t pay me enough to take care of my expenses. A few months later, in November 2017, I started applying myself into the temporary services because finding work while in school was very hard for me. I eventually started working in a warehouse and despite working 10 hours a night, 40 hours a week, and having class in the morning, I turned out to like the job.

While I was approaching the end of my program, I got rolled over from temporary services to full time working in the warehouse. Now I started working 40+ hours a week and it eventually wore me out, pre-graduation. My absences and tardies started adding up and my grades slowly tanked as I was approaching the end of the semester. Despite the obstacles, fortunately I managed to still finish out my program.
