The Madera Evening Lions will host the fourth annual Running with the Lions Strive for Diabetes 5K run on Saturday at the Town and Country Park Amphitheater.
The cost is $48 when registered online (runsignup.com and search for Running with the Lions 5K). Registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and the race will begin at 8:30 p.m.
As an added bonus, runners will also receive a free fruit tree until the Lions run out.
All eight pillars of Lions International will be present at the run. In addition to the run, Relay for Life will be out there to promote their event. The Madera County Health Department will check blood sugar. The Lions will also be collecting used glasses and the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team will also have a booth to show what they do.
Last year, the run had 115 runners and organizer Maggie Stickler hopes for the same, if not more.
“We always hope for 150 runners,” she said. “We have 150 medals for the runners. We also have youth runners have been sponsored to run, and people can still sponsor youth runners to run in the 5K.”
Runners can also sign up on the day of the run.
