🏴‍☠️ Winner! Standout athlete with The Randolph Raiders, George Newman, wins Bracket 91 for 256 Athlete of the Week!

A versatile athlete, George showed off his talents all season long on the gridiron - leading The Raiders in Reception Touchdowns, Receiving Yards, and Tackles for Loss!

Randolph would once again find themselves in familiar territory, back in the playoffs under his leadership and the leadership of Head Coach David Lloyd.

🗣️ SCORES ACROSS THE 256: PLAYOFFS EDITION‼️

As provided every Saturday morning all season long, we report all the scores in the 256, plus all the additional scores from around the State Playoffs as well!

Round 1 is complete! We had some absolute barn-burners and we had some of the most shocking results of the entire season.

Round 2 should be all the more exciting, as the elite teams keep moving further toward their end goal.

🦌 Bucks vs Tigers! 🐾

🔵 3 Buckhorn (7-3)
🔴 2 Hartselle (9-1)

In a battle of elite defenses and standout athletes on both sides of the ball, the 9-1 Hartselle Tigers host the 7-3 Buckhorn Bucks!

Hartselle and Buckhorn have a combined 5 shutouts on the season - Hartselle with 3 and Buckhorn with 2. While their wins have come in very different fashion this year, both teams can anchor down and rely on their defenses when things get tough.

Offensively, both teams can score in bunches, as their results indicate. Hartselle is averaging over 34 points per game, and only one of their 9 wins has been by single digits (Jasper, 17-14). Buckhorn is coming off a win over 7A Grissom in which they scored 45 points. They also scored 43 in a W over Lee HSV.

As aforementioned, both teams have NASTY defenses. Hartselle boasts 3 shutouts, and are giving up 8.9 points per game on average all season. In their first six games, the defense gave up 7, 8, 0, 7, 8, and 0 points. 🔥

For Buckhorn, they have 2 shutouts and multiple games won by their defense buckling down when it mattered most! This includes their 6-0 win over Mae Jemison, and their 16-10 win vs Athens.

⚠️ Massive game ahead! ⚠️

🏴‍☠️ 3 Boaz (8-2)
🐾 2 Russellville (6-4)

One of the best tickets in the 256 takes place in 5A from Russellville, Alabama! The 2 seeded Golden Tigers of Russellville host the 3 seeded Pirates of Boaz.

Their numbers are basically identical from their 10 regular season games, and it has all the making of an INSTANT classic‼️

While Boaz has the better record, Russellville finished higher in Region play, with 3 of their losses coming to non-Region opponents. Both of Boaz’ losses came to Region foes.

For Russellville, coached by Dustin Goodwin, their 6 wins have come in two spurts of 3-game win streaks. This includes wins over Law County, E. Limestone, Ardmore, Hatton, West Point, and Priceville, respectively.

Their 4 losses are to 9-1 Deshler, 11-0 Mars Hill Bible, 11-0 Fairview, and 6A playoff regulars Athens.

For Boaz, coached by Luke Pruitt in his first year with the program, they had a great year at 8-2. Despite only 2 losses, they are the 3 seed due to Regional head-to-head. They finished the year defeating Arab and Oneonta, respectively, and also have a shutout over 10-1 powerhouse in 3A Geraldine.

Their lone losses are to 1 seed Scottsboro (41-7) and 2 seed Guntersville (34-17).

🐎 MA Mustangs
🔜 State this Weekend!

Madison Academy’s standout XC team for both Boys and Girls are currently crushing it, with their recent sectionals results to prove it! 💪

The MA Boys finished 1st overall to take home the top prize, while MA’s Girls also put on a great performance with their 4th place showing.

For their efforts, Max Patterson finished 3rd individually, and Colton Gardner placed 10th.

Now it’s time for STATE, taking place this weekend in Danville!

We have a battle of two standout 256 programs who like to score in bunches, anchored by great athletes on defense! It’s a 3 seed vs 2 seed matchup, with The Hatton Hornets traveling to take on Madison Academy for some 4A action.

Coached by Nikita Stover, Hatton enters the contest on a 3-game win streak following their close loss to Russellville. They have scored at least 46 points in all 3 of those games, and had a season-high 63 points vs Danville. Their 3 losses are to 9-1 Deshler, undefeated Region champs West Morgan, and 5A playoff regulars Russellville.

Coached by Hall of Famer Bob Godsey, The Madison Academy Mustangs enter the contest with only 2 losses on the year - to undefeated defending 3A champs Mars Hill, and to undefeated Region champs Plainview. Like Hatton, they reached a season-high of 63 points, coming versus DAR. Their defense is also elite, with their 26.2 scoring average heightened by their 51 points to Mars Hill in a loss and 56 points to North Jackson in a win.
