What happens when the patient is still suffering—and the therapist is running out of answers?

Another session. Another treatment approach. Another medication adjustment.

And still, the person sitting across from you is struggling.

You see the pain. You hear the stories. You genuinely want to help.

But sometimes, despite our best clinical efforts, something seems to remain untouched.

What if there's a deeper dimension to the suffering we're seeing?

What about spiritual wounds? Brokenness of the soul? The connection between emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health?

And what if prayer, faith, and the healing power of Jesus have a greater role to play in our understanding of healing?

These are not questions we should be afraid to explore.
In fact the Bible is full of those.

The NT has countless accounts of people suffering emotionally and physically because of torment and spiritual oppression .

Jesus came to set those free!

But we conveniently ignore those parts at what cost?

The only one who pays the prize is the patient who cannot find relief from his or her suffering because we as a church have turned a blind eye to what Jesus clearly taught us.

At the Heal the Healers Physician & Healthcare Conference, we're bringing physicians, mental health professionals, scientists, theologians, and ministry leaders together to explore healing beyond the boundaries of our usual clinical conversations.

We'll address spirituality and mental health, human suffering, healing prayer, and the intersection of science and faith.

Not to replace good clinical care, but to explore what it means to care for the whole person.

What if the person sitting across from you needs more than symptom management?

This question is especially for my colleagues in mental healthcare.

Most of us have encountered people whose suffering persists despite thoughtful therapy, counseling, medication, and excellent clinical care.

Sometimes there are no easy answers.

But as Christians, we also believe something about human beings that our clinical models don't always know what to do with:

We are not only bodies and minds. We are spiritual beings.

So how do we recognize spiritual suffering?

How do faith, prayer, trauma, emotional healing, and mental health intersect?

How do we take spiritual realities seriously without abandoning clinical wisdom?

And what might change if we made room for God in our understanding of healing?

At the Heal the Healers Conference in Boston, we are bringing physicians, scientists, theologians, ministry leaders, and healthcare professionals together to have conversations like these.

There will be dedicated discussion around spirituality and mental health, as well as sessions addressing suffering, healing, prayer, and the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.
