This case will leave you asking one thing: “How did they walk?”

Eddie Williams was found burned alive in the passenger seat of a Porsche. That Porsche? It belonged to one of the suspects.

They were the last people seen with Eddie at Fenian’s. About 30 minutes later, they’re spotted working on the very Porsche that would soon explode. Then, about an hour after that, they show up as the first ones on the scene — even before JPD — after the car bursts into flames. A JFD arson dog later hit accelerant on both of them.

Two weeks later, one suspect runs straight to the DA’s office to sign a cooperation agreement. And still, the grand jury dismissed the case. Four nearly identical alibi affidavits were all it took.

Later, one of those alibi witnesses testified under oath — and was indicted for perjury tied to this very case.

And if that wasn’t enough, these same suspects turned around and sued the City of Jackson for “arrest without probable cause." In that lawsuit, they admitted they failed lie detector tests and practically gift-wrapped prosecutors more evidence for a future trial.

This isn’t the story of criminal masterminds. It’s the story of reckless suspects who, in our opinion, walked free on nothing more than dumb luck.

We’ve been digging into the 2002 unsolved murder of Eddie Williams — found in the passenger seat of a burning Porsche near the old Time Out Bar in Northeast Jackson.

Tomorrow, we’ll reveal a long-buried detail from the original investigation: one of the central figures in the case was actually indicted by a Hinds County Grand Jury for perjury after allegedly lying during their probe into Eddie’s death.

That indictment was later recalled before it was ever served and remanded by the court. The reasons remain unclear — but the fact it happened at all sheds new light on this decades-old case.

Why did this disappear from the record? And why are Jackson politicians once again talking about the case with the new mayoral administration?
