KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: School buses will be active around the state next week. Here’s a reminder on what the different colored lights on a school bus indicate and what you should do if they’re flashing:

🟠 Amber Warning Lights: The school bus is about to stop. Slow down and prepare to stop.

🔴Red Warning Lights: Stop at least 20 feet from the bus whether approaching from either direction. The only exception is if you are traveling on the other side of a divided road that’s separated by a median or other physical barrier.

BACK TO SCHOOL: We’re teaming up with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for School Transportation Safety Week to share important safety tips for students and drivers as school begins. We’re starting with reminders about school crossing guards.

DRIVERS: When approaching a crosswalk in a school zone, watch for crossing guards and prepare to stop. When the guard holds up a stop sign, stop completely and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the guard. Only proceed after all pedestrians have cleared the crosswalk and the guard reaches the curb.

STUDENTS: Follow instructions of crossing guards and only cross when it’s safe to do so.

We can all play a role in keeping students safe this school year! https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/about-wisdot/newsroom/news-rel/082525-school-safety-week.aspx
