“Global Revolutions had the honor of welcoming legendary Salvadoran singer and activiist Sebastián Torogoz to the WORT studios, one November morning. During the 1980s, Sebastian participated in the armed struggle against the military and civilian dictatorships in his country. By chance, he became one of the founders of Los Torogoces de Morazán, a band that was originally put together to fill up airtime on the rebel radio Radio Venceremos. Over the course of the conflict, Los Torogoces provided the soundtrack for popular struggle in El Salvador. In 1992, the Salvadoran peace accords were signed, bringing an end to the armed conflict. Sebastián makes the point “I laid down my weapon, but did not lay down my guitar, which is a more dangerous thing.” He remains active inspiriing the current struggles in El Salvador with his music.”
