School, Community and Elected Leaders gather with students to celebrate construction of the new Sherman Middle School and Malcolm Shabazz City High School this morning at the official groundbreaking ceremony. (The groundbreaking for Gompers Elementary and Black Hawk Middle School will also take place today - Monday, 3/30 - at 1:15 pm.)

We did it together!

Thanks to all of you for coming through as a community in collective support for our free community newspaper - the Northside News. Published by our nonprofit the Northside Planning Council (NPC), with the help of so many volunteer community journalists for the past 30 years, we are still going strong, and have added our updated website with the help of this campaign.

Thanks to all of you who believe in the value of this community resource and asset and contribute in the ways you have and do.

Enjoy this final day of 2025 and may 2026 be better than we are anticipating.

1. We have just launched our new Northside News website:

Check it out. It will allow greater searchability and set us up for success into the coming years of the Northside News' online presence. Check it out and see what you think on your phone, computer or tablet. (This is a work in progress so user feedback is welcomed!)

2. We have raised over $25,000 for our "30 for 30" campaign and need less than $5,000 by the end of the year to reach our goal. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our diverse Northside community on September 13 at the Northside Festival 2025. As you see from some of the photos, we had a great day together. Northside businesses, artists, nonprofits and government agencies shared information about their programs and services and artisans, makers and local chefs sold an international variety of cuisines.
